The&nbsp;EEOC\u2019s 2021 Women\u2019s History Month panel and Q&amp;A event will take place on March 24 at noon, and the proposed&nbsp;panel topic is Women Breaking Barriers, the email said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we celebrate the more visible \u2018glass ceilings\u2019 broken by our first female Vice President of the United States of America, Kamala Harris, we can look around and see women breaking barriers at every level and in every arena,\u201d the email read. \u201cDespite facing disproportionate challenges due to gendered violence, workplace harassment, health disparities, wage gaps, and food insecurity, women have overcome insurmountable odds to obtain equitable access and continue to move the needle forward in the direction of equal opportunity in employment and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The email said this year\u2019s event will celebrate, in particular, women in STEM fields, service, art, and law. The message also&nbsp;emphasized that the EEOC seeks to uplift&nbsp;women who set new workplace standards, \u201cnot just for women and girls, but for persons of all genders\u201d in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Hope is a woman who has lost her fear.\u2019&nbsp;\u2013 Alice Walker\u201d was tagged onto the end of the email.<\/p>\n<p>Walker, an&nbsp;African American civil rights activist and author best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel \u201cThe Color Purple,\u201d has made many wildly anti-Semitic statements over the years, including at length in her writings.<\/p>\n<p>One of Walker\u2019s books, \u201cThe Cushion in the Road,\u201d published in 2013, includes an 80-page section&nbsp;decrying Israel\u2019s role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan people who hunger so desperately for what other people have ever have enough? One thinks of Hitler, of course, and Napoleon,\u201d Walker writes, referring to Israel\u2019s claim on land also claimed by Palestinians.<\/p>\n<p>The Anti-Defamation League charged that the book is \u201creplete with fervently anti-Jewish ideas and peppered with explicit comparisons between Israel and Nazi Germany,\u201d noting that Walker&nbsp;describes Israel\u2019s actions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as&nbsp;\u201cgenocide,\u201d \u201ccrimes against humanity,\u201d and \u201ccruelty and diabolical torture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe has taken her extreme and hostile views to a shocking new level, revealing the depth of her hatred of Jews and Israel to a degree that we have not witnessed before,\u201d Abraham Foxman, then the ADL\u2019s National Director, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/adl-alice-walker-unabashedly-infected-with-anti-semitism\/\">said<\/a>&nbsp;in the weeks after the book was published.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, Walker <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commentarymagazine.com\/jonathan-tobin\/alice-walker-the-color-of-anti-semitism-israel-hebrew-boycott\/\">said<\/a> she would not allow \u201cThe Color Purple\u201d&nbsp;to be translated into Hebrew because of her opposition to what she said was&nbsp;Israel\u2019s \u201capartheid state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/12\/13\/books\/review\/alice-walker-by-the-book.html\">asked<\/a> Walker, \u201cWhat books are on your nightstand?\u201d and she listed,&nbsp;\u201cAnd the Truth Shall Set You Free\u201d by the British conspiracy theorist David Icke, who has aired his opinion that a \u201csmall Jewish clique\u201d is responsible for global events, and that the human race is run by reptilian aliens&nbsp;who shape-shift in order to appear human.<\/p>\n<p>In January of 2019, Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), one of four prominent progressive congresswomen along with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) who were nicknamed the \u201cSquad,\u201d apologized and condemned anti-Semitism after she was criticized for quoting Walker in a tweet.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">\u201c\u2018Hard times require furious dancing.\u2019 -Alice Walker,\u201d Pressley&nbsp;tweeted on January 7, 2019, adding, \u201c<\/span><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">dance on freedom riders, social justice warriors, disruptors, resisters, persisters, activists &amp; agitators.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"css-901oao css-16my406 r-1qd0xha r-ad9z0x r-bcqeeo r-qvutc0\">Pressley&nbsp;<\/span>apologized several days later in a pair of tweets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, I was unaware of the author\u2019s past statements,\u201d Pressley wrote. \u201cI fully condemn and denounce anti-Semitism, prejudice and bigotry in all their forms \u2013 and the hateful actions they embolden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The EEOC\u2019s email comes on the heels of the Biden administration\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/behind-bidens-firing-of-a-trump-appointed-lawyer-from-a-top-civil-rights-post\">abrupt firing<\/a> of&nbsp;Sharon Gustafson, who made waves earlier this month when she penned a letter refusing the administration\u2019s request that she resign from her position as general counsel at the EEOC. She&nbsp;was immediately fired, prompting questions about the legality of her termination, as well as a spirited condemnation of the president\u2019s decision from one of Gustafson\u2019s EEOC colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>In the weeks before her firing, the Biden administration had made several moves&nbsp;to curb Gustafson\u2019s work, signaling its discomfort with her focus on religious discrimination, an area she claimed had been previously neglected. Her emphasis on religious discrimination claims had rankled LGBT advocates, who worried that religion-based claims might clash with LGBT discrimination claims.<\/p>\n<p>A report on religious discrimination that Gustafson spearheaded, a continuation of an Obama-era initiative, was censored and scrubbed from the EEOC website.
