Bondi said. &ldquo;California is using unlawful policies from the last administration to create exorbitant costs for our citizens.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit also marks what DOJ officials describe as a broader effort to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-takes-up-gop-challenge-to-counting-mail-in-ballots-that-arrive-after-election-day\/\" title=\"Supreme Court takes up GOP challenge to counting mail-in ballots that arrive after Election Day\">challenge state regulations<\/a> they argue interfere with the national auto market.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For more than a decade, California has enforced emissions regulations through the California Air Resources Board&rsquo;s Advanced Clean Cars program.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, under Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gavin-newsom\/\">Gavin Newsom<\/a> (D-CA), the board adopted <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/ww2.arb.ca.gov\/our-work\/programs\/drive-forward-light-duty-vehicle-program\/advanced-clean-cars\">Advanced Clean Cars II<\/a>, requiring 100% of new passenger vehicles sold in the state to be zero-emission by the 2035 model year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Biden Environmental Protection Agency granted California <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/newsreleases\/epa-grants-waiver-californias-advanced-clean-cars-ii-regulations#:~:text=Home-,EPA%20Grants%20Waiver%20for%20California's%20Advanced%20Clean%20Cars%20II%20Regulations,and%20the%20lead%20time%20provided.\">a waiver<\/a> allowing the state to enforce the rule, along with stricter standards on heavy-duty vehicles and nitrogen oxide pollution from trucks.<\/p>\n<p>Since returning to office, President Donald Trump has taken steps to roll back the Biden-era provisions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/4485941\/democrats-running-for-president-2028\/'\"><strong>THE DEMOCRATS WHO COULD RUN FOR PRESIDENT IN 2028<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In June, Trump filed <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/energy-and-environment\/3439577\/trump-signs-repeal-california-rules-ban-gas-cars\/\">three Congressional Review Acts<\/a> targeting the Biden-era emission waivers.
