That gives the term-limited governor double the support of Harris, who sits at 14%. However, he has said he would be &ldquo;happy to step aside&rdquo; if a viable candidate that he supports starts running for the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"8767\">White House<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The governor has been in the public spotlight more recently since his memoir, <em>Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery<\/em>, was published late last month. He continues to promote the book in a multistate tour while positioning himself as an anti-Trump figure.<\/p>\n<p>Harris has not been as prominent on the national stage in recent months, but she did launch a similar book tour last fall. In her memoir <em>107 Days<\/em>, she recounted her <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >short-lived 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-this-average-american-is-voting-for-donald-trump\/\" title=\"Why This Average American Is Voting for Donald Trump\">presidential campaign<\/a><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the former Democratic presidential nominee said she hasn&rsquo;t decided on a future White House run yet but confirmed she hasn&rsquo;t ruled it out either.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/beltway-confidential\/4483589\/california-democrats-prepare-to-jack-up-gas-prices-again\/\"><strong>ZACHARY FARIA: CALIFORNIA DEMOCRATS PREPARE TO JACK UP GAS PRICES AGAIN<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Compared to the new poll, a previous Citrin-<em>Politico<\/em> survey from last year showed a much narrower margin between the two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wisconsin-dem-senate-candidate-announces-support-for-medicare-for-all\/\" title=\"Wisconsin Dem Senate Candidate Announces ... for Medicare for All\">presidential hopefuls<\/a>. Newsom had 25% support at the time, and Harris had 19% support.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Rep. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/alexandria-ocasio-cortez\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"282\">Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a> (D-NY) and former Transportation Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pete-buttigieg\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"410\">Pete Buttigieg<\/a> are close behind Harris with 12% and 11%, respectively, among Democratic primary voters. Other potential candidates, including Sen. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mark-kelly\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3448\">Mark Kelly<\/a> (D-AZ) and Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/josh-shapiro\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"5122\">Josh Shapiro<\/a> (D-PA), are polling in the single digits.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the undecided portion of voters is about the same as the percentages for Harris, Shapiro, and Ocasio-Cortez.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4040585\/where-house-senate-retirements-stand-2026\/\"><strong>HERE&rsquo;S WHERE HOUSE AND SENATE RETIREMENTS STAND IN 2026<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If Harris runs in 2028, this would be her third presidential campaign. Both times, she failed. By contrast, Newsom has not previously run for president.<\/p>\n<p>As the California governor considers a gubernatorial bid, President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> is increasingly taking shots at him. At a Kentucky rally on Wednesday, he <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4488941\/trump-newsom-unfit-president-cant-read\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4488941\/trump-newsom-unfit-president-cant-read\/\">attacked<\/a> Newsom&rsquo;s mental fitness, suggesting his dyslexia diagnosis makes him unfit to be president.
