The piece argues that:

– The Washington Post’s obituary of Ayatollah Khamenei was criticized for odd, almost poetic phrasing that some readers mocked as an overreaching or incongruous description.

– Josh Rogin, a WaPo intelligence columnist, amplified a claim on X that Chinese satellites were turning the Iran war into a “military intelligence laboratory,” but the satellite footage he cited actually depicted Atlanta’s Hartsfield‑Jackson airport, not enemy surveillance capabilities. This sparked widespread mockery and corrections from others.

– the article notes Rogin and others did not verify the footage, and it points to dubious or AI‑influenced social accounts that feed misinformation or biased narratives about Israel, Iran, and China.

– It argues that visual evidence like satellite video is not definitive proof of strategic capability, and that nations with advanced defense capabilities can still obscure or misinterpret real-world targets and operations.

– Through aviation knowledge and public corrections, the author suggests Rogin and similar commentators have a pattern of misinterpretation, framing the Washington Post as contributing to a broader level of gallows humor about a perilous war.

– The overall message is a warning about how easily miscaptioned or unchecked online claims can distort public understanding of international conflict and technology.

There are few axioms in journalism as rock-solid as this one: WaPo’s gonna WaPo.

The Washington Post is a source of endless amusement, inasmuch as it will reliably give you the worst take on any story, especially in the headlines. The obituary of Ayatollah Khamenei is cited as an example where WaPo described him in oddly theatrical terms-an avuncular public figure who enjoyed poetry and classic novels-an unusual choice for such a piece. The article also notes Josh Rogin, the paper’s prominent global security analyst, who is active on X even if he doesn’t always appear in print.

– The main argument centers on Rogin promoting a viral claim that U.S. actions against Iran have become a “military intelligence laboratory” for China. The claim was tied to a video that supposedly showed detailed U.S. war planning, but the piece points out that the footage actually depicted Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport, not military intelligence data, and thus undermines the claim. The author highlights the mockery and corrections from others who pointed out the error.

– The piece argues that Rogin didn’t verify what the video showed, which is problematic for someone labeled an intelligence expert. It notes additional instances where Rogin reposted or amplified questionable content-such as interviews blaming Israel for broader issues or posts asserting China’s control over strategic chokepoints-without solid evidence.

– In sum, the piece contends that Rogin has fallen prey to misinformation about Iran and that his work at WaPo reads more like a provocative but flawed form of “austere intelligence scholarship.” The closing remarks include a jab at Rogin’s reliability and a sarcastic acknowledgment of WaPo’s role in the discourse around the war.

– The text also includes a form-related fragment, suggesting a mechanism for user corrections, though the main gist remains a critique of Rogin’s missteps and the broader reliability of WaPo’s “intelligence” coverage

[33651
75596,5157,75595,50738,72346
post-2578819","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-atlanta-airport-2","tag-journalism","tag-military-video","tag-misinformation-2","tag-washington-post-2
["GET
