Jon Husted (R-Ohio) for supposedly not driving his own car amid <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-energy-sec-i-drive-on-sunshine\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s Energy Sec: \u2018I Drive On Sunshine\u2019\">rising gas prices<\/a>. Yet Brown\u2019s own campaign finances show heavy use of luxury transportation services over his years in office.<\/p>\n<p>key points:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Campaign finance review shows about $50,000 spent by Brown\u2019s Senate committees on chauffeured car services, limousine rentals, ride shares, and chartered air travel, with many expenses concentrated in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Nearly $6,000 of that total went to Carey International between october 2025 and November 2025; Brown has spent more than $30,000 with Carey International over his Senate career.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Brown has also spent roughly $5,500 on Uber and Lyft rides since 2017.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Brown\u2019s image emphasizes blue-collar roots (workwear in profile pictures, pride in driving a Jeep), but not all transport needs are handled by unionized workers; Uber and Lyft have historically resisted unionization, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >article notes broader labor-law battles<\/a> and related unionization efforts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Othre vendors that have provided services to Brown\u2019s campaigns include All Star Limo, Blue Limo, Dhillon Car Service, California Pacific Limousine, Executive Limo Service, and Air Charter Team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Politically, polls show Husted ahead of Brown in Ohio, though by slim margins; Democrats are hopeful brown\u2019s rural appeal could help him, and Cook Political Report labels the race as leaning Republican. What Brown left out, however, is his own penchant for luxury transportation services.<\/p>\n<p>Over the course of his nearly two decades in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/senate\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/senate\/\">Senate<\/a>, Brown&rsquo;s political committees spent roughly $50,000 on chauffeured car services, limousine rentals, ride shares, and chartered air travel, a <em>Washington Examiner <\/em><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fec.gov\/data\/disbursements\/?data_type=processed&amp;committee_id=C00264697&amp;committee_id=C00916288&amp;recipient_name=Air+Charter&amp;recipient_name=Dhillon+Car&amp;recipient_name=Limo&amp;recipient_name=Lyft&amp;recipient_name=Uber&amp;recipient_name=carey&amp;max_date=12%2F31%2F2026&amp;disbursement_description=Travel\">review of campaign finance records<\/a> has found. Brown has spent over $30,000 at Carey International over the course of his senatorial career.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Jon, it would do you a lot of good to maybe pump your own gas from time to time,&rdquo; Brown <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SherrodBrown\/status\/2029949414077247969\">wrote <\/a>last week, responding to Husted&rsquo;s claim that families are paying less under Republican leadership by attaching a screenshot of a news article reporting on increased gas prices in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ohio\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1141\">Ohio<\/a>. &ldquo;Stop embarrassing yourself.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sen. For one, the former senator appears in a workwear jacket in his social media profile pictures. He&rsquo;s also repeatedly emphasized that unionized workers make the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sherrod\/photos\/i-drive-a-jeep-made-by-uaw-workers-in-toledo-the-best-cars-in-the-world-are-made\/1099557771526867\/?_rdr\">Jeep he drives<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Not all of Brown&rsquo;s transportation needs are handled by unionized workers, however.<\/p>\n<p>Brown&rsquo;s campaign committees have spent roughly $5,500 on Uber and Lyft rides since 2017, records show.<\/p>\n<p>Uber and Lyft have historically resisted unionization efforts. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The two companies, alongside DoorDash, Instacart, and Postmates, for instance, spent over <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/200-million-uber-lyft-write-own-labor-law\/\">$200 million <\/a>backing Proposition 22 in California &mdash; a 2020 referendum that cemented the status of their drivers as independent contractors, thus hamstringing their ability to unionize. Only within the past year have Uber and Lyft drivers gained the ability to unionize in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/10\/04\/business\/california-uber-lyft-union-bill\">California<\/a>, with fights ongoing in progressive <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/transportation\/2026\/01\/20\/uber-lyft-driver-union-illinois-transportation-network-driver-labor-relations-act\">Illinois<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/huntnewsnu.com\/90653\/city\/metro\/massachusetts-rideshare-drivers-call-for-unionization-amid-falling-wages\/\">Massachusetts<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Services such as All Star Limo, Blue Limo, Dhillon Car Service, California Pacific Limousine, Executive Limo Service, and Air Charter Team &mdash; a charter flight provider based in Missouri &mdash; have all received business from Brown&rsquo;s campaign committees over the years.<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4467385\/iowa-congressman-took-cash-from-chinese-companies-buying-american-farmland\/\"><strong>CONGRESSMAN WHO SOUNDED ALARM ON CHINESE COMPANIES BUYING AMERICAN FARMLAND TOOK CASH FROM THEM<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Most <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/polls\/ohio-us-senate-election-polls-2026.html\">polls<\/a> show Husted ahead of Brown, but by relatively slim margins in reliably red Ohio. Democrats are hopeful that Brown&rsquo;s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/09\/05\/nx-s1-5093198\/sherrod-brown-campaign-rural-ohio\">unique appeal<\/a> to rural voters will help him in November.
