Kahn worked with Epstein for more than a decade, managing wire transfers, signing checks, handling taxes, and distributing payments to associates, and he became an executor of Epstein’s estate after Epstein’s death in 2019. Investigators are seeking to understand how epstein’s finances were structured and whether members of his inner circle helped sustain the financial apparatus behind his activities. DOJ records released this year show Kahn oversaw a wide range of matters, including gifts, tuition assistance, charitable donations, and other expenses tied to Epstein’s network, with Epstein paying him more than $10 million between 2011 and 2019.

Kahn’s deposition is part of a broader effort by the committee to uncover how Epstein maintained wealth and influence after his 2008 prostitution conviction, and it follows testimonies and depositions from figures such as Bill Clinton, Les Wexner, and Ghislaine Maxwell (the latter invoking the Fifth Amendment). Kahn is the first of Epstein’s two estate co-executors to testify; co-executor Darren Indyke is scheduled to appear later. The estate, once valued as high as $650 million, has seen much of its value eroded by settlements with victims and ongoing litigation. Some lawsuits allege that Kahn and Indyke helped structure accounts and transactions that supported Epstein’s trafficking operation; both deny wrongdoing. The committee has signaled that it may release deposition footage at a later date as part of its broader probe into Epstein’s wealth and influence and how federal agencies handled Epstein-related records.

Epstein accountant Richard Kahn faces House Oversight questions in closed-door deposition

The former longtime accountant for convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein appeared Wednesday for a closed-door deposition before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform as lawmakers seek a deeper understanding of the late financier’s wealth and network.

Richard Kahn worked closely with Epstein as his accountant for more than a decade and later became one of two executors of his estate following Epstein’s death in 2019. Their attorney has said neither man has ever been accused by victims of participating in or witnessing abuse and that they were unaware of Epstein’s criminal conduct while providing professional services.

Kahn is the first of Epstein’s two estate co-executors to testify before the committee. Indyke is scheduled to appear for a deposition on March 19.

After Epstein died in a Manhattan jail in 2019, the pair assumed control of an estate once valued at as much as $650 million. That figure has declined sharply as settlements have been paid to victims. Epstein will also have left Kahn $25 million, but litigation has siphoned off much of Epstein’s fortune, leaving the rest tied up in legal red tape.

The House committee has spent months gathering testimony from individuals connected to Epstein as lawmakers try to understand how the financier maintained his wealth and influence even after his 2008 conviction for soliciting prostitution from a minor.

Recent witnesses have included former President Bill Clinton, billionaire Les Wexner, and Epstein coconspirator Ghislaine Maxwell, who invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination during a virtual appearance. Kahn, who worked with Epstein for more than a decade, handled tasks such as coordinating wire transfers, signing checks, managing taxes, and distributing funds to associates. Investigators aim to understand how Epstein’s finances were arranged and whether members of his inner circle helped maintain the financial system that supported his criminal activity. DOJ records released earlier show Kahn managed a range of payments-from gifts and tuition aid to charitable donations and other expenses tied to Epstein’s network. A U.S. Virgin Islands lawsuit says Epstein paid Kahn more than $10 million for his services between 2011 and 2019. Victims’ attorneys allege that Epstein’s close advisers helped create a complex financial setup that enabled the trafficking operation; Kahn and longtime Epstein attorney Darren Indyke have denied wrongdoing, with Indyke slated to testify on March 19. After Epstein’s death, Kahn and Indyke took control of an estate once valued as high as $650 million, a figure that has fallen due to settlements, though Epstein left Kahn about $25 million, much of which remains tied up in legal disputes. The House committee has spent months taking testimony from people connected to Epstein to understand how he preserved wealth and influence after his 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor. Recent witnesses have included former President Bill Clinton, billionaire Les Wexner, and Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell, who invoked the Fifth Amendment during a virtual appearance. The committee has also deposed former Attorney General Bill Barr and received letters from other former DOJ leaders indicating they had no knowledge of the inquiry. The investigation has fueled renewed scrutiny of how the DOJ handled Epstein-related records. Last week, a bipartisan group on the Oversight Committee subpoenaed Attorney General Pam Bondi for testimony amid disputes over the release of Epstein files, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has agreed to testify, though a date has not been set. Public criticism of Bondi intensified after past releases of Epstein-related materials were criticized as political props rather than substantial information.

55-character limit headline:
Epstein accountant testifies in closed-door deposition

[33651
12718,18855,12696,9006,75565
post-2578605","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-accountant","tag-closed-door","tag-deposition","tag-epstein","tag-house-committee-2
["GET
