for &lsquo;peace&rsquo;<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The signees implored the administration not to impose tariffs on Mexican beer as the U.S. renegotiates the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Mexican beer represents over 82% of beer imports into the United States, and almost every bottle, can, and keg of Mexican beer sold in the U.S. is brewed with some combination of American-grown hops, barley, and corn,&rdquo; the signees wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The letter also notes that more than 80% of U.S. barley exports go to Mexico, where it is used to brew beer and eventually sold to American consumers, thereby infusing capital into rural communities.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Tariffs on Mexican beer have a multiplier effect because of the three<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-california-voters-almost-evenly-split-on-recall-of-dem-gov-newsom-larry-elder-leading-republicans\/\" title=\"POLL: California Voters Almost Evenly Split On Recall Of Dem Gov. Newsom, Larry Elder Leading Republicans\">-tier system<\/a> of alcohol distribution, impacting distributors and retailers in addition to American-based suppliers,&rdquo; the letter also states. &ldquo;Beer distributors would be uniquely impacted; many are family-owned, and their business model is built on agreements allowing them to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >carry specific beers &#038;ndash<\/a>; such as Mexican brands &ndash; in a specific geographical region.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump announced a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/02\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-imposes-tariffs-on-imports-from-canada-mexico-and-china\/\">25% tariff<\/a> on Canada and Mexico on Feb. 1, 2025. The tariffs on Mexico were paused for a month before he ultimately allowed them to be implemented, affecting major Mexican imports like Corona and Modelo.<\/p>\n<p>A 2025 <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/news.illinois.edu\/study-tariffs-have-potential-to-reshape-us-beer-market\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/news.illinois.edu\/study-tariffs-have-potential-to-reshape-us-beer-market\/\">study<\/a> from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign agricultural economist Aaron Staples and Michael McCullough of California Polytechnic State University found that gains from tariffs would primarily go to multinational firms rather than local entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court ultimately struck down the president&rsquo;s &ldquo;Liberation Day&rdquo; tariffs last month, but Trump quickly announced a 15% global tariff under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, even though only a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4469199\/trump-administration-imposes-10-global-tariff\/\">10% global tariff<\/a> is currently being imposed.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-02-11\/trump-privately-weighs-quitting-usmca-trade-pact-he-negotiated\">reportedly<\/a> musing on quitting the USMCA, which was signed during his second term. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We don&rsquo;t believe it, and it has never been said in the calls,&rdquo; Mexican President&nbsp;Claudia Sheinbaum told Bloomberg News last month about Trump leaving the USMCA.<\/p>\n<p>House GOP lawmakers pointed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alaska-republicans-want-to-give-residents-1300-to-cover-energy-costs\/\" title=\"Alaska Republicans Want to Give Residents ,300 to Cover Energy Costs\">negative economic effect<\/a> that tariffs on Mexican beer could have on hundreds of thousands of jobs nationwide, particularly during a midterm year.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/4481544\/legal-war-over-trump-tariffs-still-raging-despite-supreme-court-ruling\/\">LEGAL WAR OVER TRUMP TARIFFS STILL RAGING DESPITE SUPREME COURT RULING<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As the Administration weighs changes to USMCA, we hope you consider how tariffs on Mexican beer &ndash; which relies on U.S.-grown ingredients &ndash; could undermine American agriculture and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/haley-stevens-launches-run-for-michigan-senate\/\" title=\"Haley Stevens launches run for Michigan Senate\">threaten local jobs<\/a> that help fuel our rural economies,&rdquo; the letter to Greer states.<\/p>\n<p>The signees include: Reps.
