He then got another device, also a bomb, from another man, now identified as his accomplice, 19-year-old Ibraham Kayumi, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>Balat lit that bomb and dropped it near police officers who were approaching. According to the complaint, he was asked by someone in the crowd why he had been part of the attack and he responded, &ldquo;ISIS.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Once at the precinct house, Balat made the attack&rsquo;s motivation even clearer. Provided with a paper and pen, he had pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;All praise is due to Allah lord of all worlds,&rdquo; he wrote, according to the complaint. &ldquo;I pledge my allegience [sic] to the Islamic State. Die in your rage yu [sic] kuffar!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The complaint noted that &ldquo;kuffar&rdquo; is a term for non-Muslim, and &ldquo;die in your rage&rdquo; is an Islamic State slogan based on a verse in the Quran, the Muslim scripture.<\/p>\n<p>Besides his Islamist terrorist motivation, Balat made it clear that his goal was mass murder.<\/p>\n<p>When interrogators asked Balat if he was attempting to do something like the Boston Marathon bombing of 2013, in which two Muslim brothers detonated explosives near the finish line of the event, Balat confirmed that he was.<\/p>\n<p>That attack caused three fatalities and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/newlyweds-lost-leg-boston-marathon-bombing--incredible-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">left hundreds wounded<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One of the bombing brothers died in a shootout with police. The other is on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/supreme-court-rules-boston-marathon-bombers-death-sentence-justice-thomas-crushes-unfair-trial-argument\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">federal death row<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;No, even bigger,&rdquo; Balat replied, according to the complaint. &ldquo;It was only three deaths.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/fbi-investigation-terrorism-explosive-device-new-york-city-mayor-mamdani-gracie-mansion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a>, Balat and Kayumi are both charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to ISIS, use of a weapon of mass destruction, transportation of explosive materials, interstate transportation and receipt of explosives, and unlawful possession of destructive devices.<\/p>\n<p>Both men are from homes in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, northeast of Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>Balat&rsquo;s family is of Turkish origin, and his parents became naturalized American citizens in 2017, according to CBS News.
