We may un-sanction other Russian oil.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The other thing Treasury can do here &hellip; is there are hundreds of millions of sanctioned barrels of sanctioned crude on the water. And in essence, by un-sanctioning them, Treasury can create supply,&rdquo; Bessent continued. &ldquo;And we are looking at that. We are going to keep a cadence of announcing measures to bring relief to the market during this conflict.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Oil and gas prices have been rising throughout the week since the start of &ldquo;Operation Epic Fury&rdquo; last Saturday morning. The increase is the result of Iran tightening its grip on the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/energy-and-environment\/4481648\/lloyds-london-talks-trump-plan-backstop-ships-strait-of-hormuz\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/energy-and-environment\/4481648\/lloyds-london-talks-trump-plan-backstop-ships-strait-of-hormuz\/\">Strait of Hormuz<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >key global shipping lane<\/a> through which 20% of the world&rsquo;s daily oil demand passes.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.upstreamonline.com\/energy-security\/oil-sees-weekly-gain-of-20-per-barrel-as-us-iran-war-rattles-markets\/2-1-1956303?zephr_sso_ott=qfA1x0\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.upstreamonline.com\/energy-security\/oil-sees-weekly-gain-of-20-per-barrel-as-us-iran-war-rattles-markets\/2-1-1956303?zephr_sso_ott=qfA1x0\">U.S. crude oil benchmark<\/a> surpassed $90 per barrel for the first time since September 2023. A week ago, the cost per barrel was about $20 less. Gas prices are also rising quickly. As of Friday, the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\">AAA national average<\/a> was $3.32 per gallon. That is up about 34 cents from the prior week.<\/p>\n<p>After the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/treasury-department\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"3544\">Treasury Department<\/a> issued a license allowing India to temporarily purchase Russian oil without repercussions, multiple Senate Democrats criticized President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4\">Donald Trump<\/a> for attacking Iran and claimed Russia would use the easing of U.S. sanctions to its advantage in a separate conflict with Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This self-made global energy shock is serving to enrich Putin and line his war coffers by offering him windfall profits,&rdquo; reads the statement, signed by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and the top Democrats on several committees.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Instead of changing course, the President is only making this situation worse by handing Putin, his shadow fleet, and traders still dealing in sanctioned oil a free pass to increase oil shipments to Russia&rsquo;s second-largest importer,&rdquo; it states. &ldquo;The new channels for evasion the President is opening, coupled with dramatically higher global energy prices, are giving Putin a huge financial boost and the means to continue his bloody war in Ukraine.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Senate Democrats also raised concerns about reports that Russia is providing intelligence to Iran about the position of U.S. forces in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/middle-east\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"102\">Middle East<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In response to the reports, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"8767\">White House<\/a> press secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/karoline-leavitt\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11685\">Karoline Leavitt<\/a> doubted that the apparent coordination between Russia and Iran would be very successful.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It clearly is not making a difference with respect to the military operations in Iran because we are completely decimating them,&rdquo; she said on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense\/4483222\/russia-iran-intelligence-target-us-forces-middle-east\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense\/4483222\/russia-iran-intelligence-target-us-forces-middle-east\/\">WHITE HOUSE DOWNPLAYS RUSSIAN ASSISTANCE FOR IRAN: &lsquo;IT CLEARLY IS NOT MAKING A DIFFERENCE&rsquo;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>War Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pete-hegseth\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"1991\">Pete Hegseth<\/a> also addressed the reports in an <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/60Minutes\/status\/2030054161123868786\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/x.com\/60Minutes\/status\/2030054161123868786\">upcoming episode<\/a> of <em>60 Minutes<\/em>, saying Trump is &ldquo;well aware of who&rsquo;s talking to who.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;No one&rsquo;s putting us in danger,&rdquo; Hegseth said. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re putting the other guys in danger, and that&rsquo;s our job.
