Citing RealClearPolitics polling as of March 5 in the second year, it notes Trump at 43.3% approval—above George W. Bush (36.7%) and Barack Obama (42.5%). A Western Journal report and related social media posts are referenced to illustrate the trend, including a tweet noting Trump’s approval numbers outperforming the other two presidents at a comparable stage.

The article then contrasts the trajectories of the three presidents: Bush faced significant headwinds over Iraq and social Security privatization, obama experienced a gradual second-term decline with limited notable accomplishments, and Trump’s path has been shaped by his approach to the political establishment and foreign policy signals like Iran. It cautions that both Bush and Obama suffered midterm losses, a factor Trump would want to avoid, while arguing that Trump’s approval has remained robust despite intense media scrutiny.

Key differences highlighted include the absence of consecutive terms for Trump’s presidency in the modern context, the idea of entropy in later-term leadership, and Trump’s seemingly evolving strategy of maneuvering around Washington rather than aligning with it. The piece emphasizes that media perception substantially influences Trump’s approval ratings, which remain higher than Obama’s or Bush’s at similar points in their second terms. it suggests the political landscape is far from settled, with future directions uncertain despite current polling strengths. Arguably, he was the last president to enjoy sustained bipartisan support in the years immediately following 9/11 and the Afghanistan invasion, and there was still the residual belief in 2006 that he was the last line of defense keeping us from another Al-Qaida attack.

Obama’s presidential standing, meanwhile, wasn’t so much affected by any one thing as the agglomeration of issues that occurs over the eight years of a normal presidency. The second term of the 44th presidency was pretty much a gentle downhill where not much got accomplished, especially when one considers how much the media loved the guy.

Now, of course, this comes with a caveat: Both Bush and Obama got thumped in the midterms, something that Trump has to avoid.

To a certain extent, however, there are major differences between where the three 21st century presidents to serve two terms found themselves on March 5 of the second year of their second term.

First and foremost, you don’t have two consecutive terms; we’ve had a Democratic presidency in between Trump 45 and Trump 47, and that provides a template to run against, since nobody really wants that again.

Then there’s the matter of entropy. Bush and Obama ran out of steam in part because there was nothing left for them to do aside from shoring up projects begun earlier in their presidency. Trump, meanwhile, seems to be getting the hang of how to negotiate around the swamp as opposed to getting along with it, and his movement on issues like Iran shows it.

And finally, and most importantly, Trump’s approval is, in large part, influenced by media perception. They loathe the guy and it shows.

And yet, his approval rating is still above a guy who was loved (Obama) or tolerated (Dubya). If Trump got that kind of coverage, he would be obliterating approval records daily.

Now, where it goes from here is another thing entirely. The point remains that, for all the nasty talk about Donald Trump and those insisting that the sky is falling, it’s not.

       * Name

       *

      * Message

* All fields are required.

Success!

       function firefly_sc() {     if( typeof window.captchaPublicKey==typeof undefined ){      console.error('window.captchaPublicKey is not defined');     }     grecaptcha.execute( window.captchaPublicKey, { action: 'submit_correction' } ).then( function( token ) {      var opts={       action:    'firefly_sc_submit',       name:      document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="name"]' ).value,       :     document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name=""]' ).value,       message:   document.querySelector( '.entry-submit-correction [name="message"]' ).value,       post_id:   firefly_post_id,       cap_token: token      }       var inputs=[ 'name', '', 'message' ];       for( var i=0; i <inputs.length; i++ ) if( ! RealClearPolitics’ March 5 average shows Trump at 43.3% approval, compared with Obama at 42.5% and Bush at 36.7%. The Western Journal highlighted this contrast in a tweet linked in the piece. Even with overwhelming negative coverage, Trump’s support remains relatively strong.

Looking back, Bush faced sharp headwinds in his second term—Iraq turning into a quagmire and a failed push to privatize Social Security—yet he started from a higher peak and benefited from lingering post-9/11 bipartisan support. Obama’s standing declined more gradually, not from a single event but from a buildup of issues over eight years, even though he enjoyed strong media support. Both Bush and Obama lost midterm elections, a fate Trump aims to avoid.

There are clear differences among the three two-term presidents as of this point. There hasn’t been two consecutive terms for any one of them, and a Democratic presidency between Trump’s two terms creates a different political dynamic. Entropy also matters: Bush and Obama exhausted themselves late in their runs, while Trump appears to be learning how to navigate the Washington swamp and has shown some moves on Iran. Most importantly, Trump’s approval is heavily influenced by how the media portrays him; despite the hostility, his numbers still sit above Obama’s or Bush’s at the same point in their tenures.
