The loss is described as exposing rifts within the party shaped by identity-politics dynamics.

– The article’s main criticisms include that Crockett’s campaign was unfocused and lacked the organizational backbone to compete with Talarico, even with backing from Vice President Kamala Harris. It also says her messaging relied too much on social media rather than television ads across Texas’s multiple media markets.

– The reporting features varied responses: some Democrats say Crockett’s supporters were dealing with a disconnect between political understanding and her campaign ground game, while others blame the campaign’s failures on poor strategy and question whether Crockett’s effort was viable. Some Black national Democrats argue the criticisms overlook the broader issue of Black women candidates wanting representation, while others warn that the party often prioritizes fresh white male candidates over qualified Black women, a pattern they deem troubling.

– Crockett’s campaign reportedly centered race as a theme, and she described attacks as racist, including ads that she said darkened her skin.
