James Talarico defeated U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett 52.5% to 46.2%. Crockett had been the favorite, but the article says she lacked strong campaign infrastructure and fundraising and was sometimes prone to verbal missteps. The author portrays Crockett as an “ultra-woke, ultra-radical” candidate and argues that even when Democrats vote for “sanity,” the outcome reflects the influence of the left. The piece cites tweets and social-media posts to critique Crockett and to defend Talarico, describing his stance on issues such as immigration, religious beliefs, abortion, same-sex marriage, and gender pronouns, and noting past public statements and posts. Crockett conceded the race and urged unity, while the article suggests that Talarico’s appeal comes from presenting himself as a more electable Democrat in Texas. It also points to potential general-election matchups against Republicans John Cornyn or Ken Paxton and contends that Talarico’s candidacy underscores a broader debate within the party about moderation versus woke positions. the piece argues that liberal voters still ended up backing a candidate it views as part of a woke-left trend, and it implies Republicans should highlight this dynamic as a critique of Democratic moderatism.

The candidate favored by the ultra-woke, ultra-radical element in Texas politics is out of the Senate race.
