Trump\u2019s backing would be valuable to Cornyn and his establishment allies, and could <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >reduce campaign spending<\/a>, according to Senate Majority leader John Thune, who also suggested an endorsement would be helpful. John Cornyn after the incumbent senator failed to secure a majority of Texans&rsquo; votes during the Lone Star State&rsquo;s primary on Tuesday. The commander-in-chief, who is notorious for prioritizing loyalty, might think twice about gifting Cornyn his confidence after the senator questioned whether Trump was &ldquo;a candidate who can actually win&rdquo; during the 2024 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of Texas&rsquo; May 26 Republican-primary runoff election between Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton will determine who faces Democrat nominee for U.S. Senate&nbsp;James Talarico in November. He was one of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/22\/the-14-republicans-who-voted-to-advance-democrats-gun-control-wish-list-just-betrayed-their-base\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">14 Republican senators<\/a> who betrayed their base by advancing Democrats&rsquo; radical gun control wish list in 2022, a decision that earned him <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/17\/sen-john-cornyn-booed-at-texas-gop-convention-over-willingness-to-surrender-to-democrats-on-guns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a round of boos<\/a> at the 2022 Texas GOP convention. Shortly after in 2023, Cornyn was one of several Republican legislators <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/09\/05\/senate-republicans-going-along-with-democrats-spending-wish-list-are-playing-right-into-bidens-hands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">going along with Democrats&rsquo; inflationary spending<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That same year, as the Biden administration ramped up its quest to paint Christians and pro-lifers as domestic terrorists, Cornyn suggested that the conservative-led ousting of former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy was <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/10\/04\/republican-senator-john-cornyn-joins-the-deep-state-in-calling-conservatives-terrorists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tantamount to a &ldquo;terrorist attack.&rdquo;<\/a> He also fought alongside the Biden administration to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/24\/cornyn-other-republicans-push-for-biden-administration-to-expand-critical-race-theory-in-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">push racist curriculum in schools<\/a> and tried to hamper Republicans&rsquo; investigation into <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/03\/22\/cornyn-attacks-house-gop-for-investigating-political-prosecution-of-trump-by-soros-funded-da\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrats&rsquo; lawfare against Trump.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>When Cornyn faced criticism for his unwavering support for sending blank checks to Ukraine, he lashed out on social media, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/03\/21\/cornyn-attacks-federalist-ceo-for-criticizing-cornyns-war-propaganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">taking aim at Federalist CEO Sean Davis in the process.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Cornyn is also notoriously opposite of Trump on some of the president&rsquo;s biggest priorities. Shortly after Trump won the 2024 election, Cornyn signaled he would sabotage the president&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/report-cuomo-among-contenders-for-bidens-attorney-general-pick\/\" title=\"Report: Cuomo Among Contenders for Biden\u2019s Attorney General Pick\">attorney general pick<\/a> during the confirmation.
