The measure—a war powers resolution—was largely party-line, with most Democrats opposing it and most Republicans supporting it; notable exceptions included Republican Rand Paul voting in favor and Democrat John Fetterman voting against constraining the president.Proponents argued the resolution would intrude on presidential authority and trigger a 60-day clock under the 1973 War Powers Resolution, while opponents said it would undermine national defense and upset the balance of powers. The discussion featured remarks from several senators, including Lindsey Graham, John Barrasso, Susan Collins, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, and also touched on issues such as U.S. support for Israel. The article alludes to contemporary political commentary and related coverage from outlets like The Hill, NBC News, and Politico.

An effort by Senate Democrats to put their prerogatives ahead of Middle East peace was defeated Wednesday night.

The war powers resolution failed 47-53, according to the Associated Press.

Although the vote was largely along party lines, Republican Sen.
