Peters was sentenced to nine years in prison in October 2024, while fellow defendant Sonya Jaquez Lewis received probation, community service, and a fine after a similar conviction. Trump previously urged a full pardon for Peters, a move he touted on Truth Social, but the pardon woudl be largely symbolic since Peters was convicted on state charges. Peters allegedly tampered with voting equipment by using another person\u2019s security badge to give access to an associate of Mike Lindell. Jared Polis (D-CO) has indicated he may grant clemency to Tina Peters, a former election clerk in Mesa County, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/colorado\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"767\">Colorado<\/a>, who was convicted in a 2020 <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/election-interference\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"4586\">election interference<\/a> case.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic governor made the statement Tuesday night after former Colorado state Sen. Sonya Jaquez Lewis, who was convicted on the same charge of attempting to influence a public official as Peters, received a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.denverda.org\/news-release\/denver-judge-sentences-former-state-senator-sonya-jaquez-lewis\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.denverda.org\/news-release\/denver-judge-sentences-former-state-senator-sonya-jaquez-lewis\/\">comparably lighter sentence<\/a>. He noted the act of clemency in this case will be a reduced commutation, not a full pardon.<\/p>\n<p>Polis has previously said Peters&rsquo;s sentence was &ldquo;harsh&rdquo; after the issue was raised by Trump late last year and into this year.<\/p>\n<p>In December, Trump <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3915840\/trump-pardon-tina-peters\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3915840\/trump-pardon-tina-peters\/\">announced<\/a> a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-grants-full-pardon-to-tina-peters-after-election-interference-conviction\/\" title=\"Trump grants &#039;...&#039; to ... after election interference conviction\">full pardon&#038;rdquo<\/a>; for Peters on Truth Social. However, the move was largely symbolic and proved ineffective as the former election clerk was convicted on state rather than federal charges. The president later <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4379181\/trump-colorado-governor-district-attorney-rot-in-hell-tina-peters-incarceration\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4379181\/trump-colorado-governor-district-attorney-rot-in-hell-tina-peters-incarceration\/\">ramped up the pressure<\/a> on Polis and Mesa County District Attorney Daniel Rubinstein, telling them to &ldquo;rot in Hell&rdquo; for incarcerating the elderly woman.<\/p>\n<p>Peters allegedly tampered with voting equipment in 2020 by using another individual&rsquo;s security badge to give a person affiliated with Trump ally and MyPillow CEO <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/mike-lindell\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11052\">Mike Lindell<\/a> access to the Mesa County election system.
