NBC News’ partial results showed Talarico leading Crockett 52.4% to 46.4% as of 8 p.m. central, while betting platforms Polymarket and Kalshi priced Crockett at about a 1% chance and Talarico at 99%. The article attributes Crockett’s setback to a combination of late entry, uneven performance in key counties, and messaging missteps, contrasted with Talarico’s solid statewide campaign infrastructure and establishment support.

Key points:

– Talarico benefited from a capable statewide campaign and strategic timing, including a controversial but buzz-generating moment related to a Stephen Colbert stunt that framed his bid positively.

– Crockett faced criticism for past remarks and a string of online memes and controversies, including accusations of cheating from some supporters, which the piece suggests undermined her credibility.

– Polls and market bets depicted Crockett as a long shot, while Talarico appeared as the more credible, better-organized candidate in the eyes of many observers.

– The article implies that, in this race, voters preferred a more disciplined, less provocative candidate, highlighting a broader narrative about candidate style and electability in Democratic primaries.

It turns out that running your yap mouth to your heart’s content even as your brain lags far behind — if it even bothers getting its shoes on at all — isn’t a recipe for electoral success, even on the Democratic side.

Alas, Rep.
