Roundup is a glyphosate-based herbicide that has caused concern among pesticide-wary people and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/maha\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"11799\">Make America Healthy Again<\/a> figures over allegations it could contain carcinogenic properties, though the manufacturer maintains the product <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bayer.com\/en\/litigation-statement\/durnell-opening-brief\">does not cause cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Roughly 20,000 Americans call Bayer home and work toward creating new and innovative treatments for patients, cutting edge tools for farmers, and medicines that help make life better for everyday Americans &mdash; and&nbsp;continue to be an advocate for these interests in an ethical and transparent way,&rdquo; a Bayer spokesperson said in a statement to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The executive order called the herbicides &ldquo;crucial to the national security and defense, including food-supply security, which is essential to protecting the health and safety of Americans.&rdquo; It also calls for &ldquo;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2026\/feb\/19\/trump-order-protect-weedkiller\">immunity<\/a>&rdquo; for domestic manufacturers of the herbicide.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Lack of access to glyphosate-based herbicides would critically jeopardize agricultural productivity, adding pressure to the domestic food system, and may result in a transition of cropland to other uses due to low productivity,&rdquo; Trump&rsquo;s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2026\/02\/promoting-the-national-defense-by-ensuring-an-adequate-supply-of-elemental-phosphorus-and-glyphosate-based-herbicides\/\">executive order<\/a>, titled &ldquo;Promoting The National Defense By Ensuring An Adequate Supply Of Elemental Phosphorus And Glyphosate-based Herbicides,&rdquo; reads.<\/p>\n<p>Health and Human Services Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/robert-f-kennedy-jr\/\" type=\"post_tag\" id=\"8011\">Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/a>, who has crusaded <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/3496509\/trump-is-right-to-reject-rfks-pesticide-fear-mongering\/\">against the use of herbicides<\/a>, made a statement in support of Trump&rsquo;s executive order this week. Though he called pesticides and herbicides &ldquo;toxic by design&rdquo; and &ldquo;engineered to kill living organisms&rdquo; in the statement, he said the consequences of no longer using them in U.S. food production &ldquo;would be disastrous.&rdquo; He emphasized that Trump&rsquo;s executive order encourages domestic production of herbicides.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecKennedy\/status\/2025760500793909389?s=20\">I support President Trump&rsquo;s Executive Order<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >bring agricultural chemical production back<\/a> to the United States and end our near-total reliance on adversarial nations,&rdquo; Kennedy said. &ldquo;His EO protects two pillars of national strength: our defense readiness and our food supply. When hostile actors control critical inputs, they directly threaten the security of the American people. The Trump administration will secure these supply chains to eliminate that vulnerability.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>But Massie has moved to undo the executive order, which he says &ldquo;insulates&nbsp;manufacturers of the chemical from liability,&rdquo; filing a bill called the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/massie.house.gov\/news\/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=395805\">No Immunity for Glyphosate Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Feb. 18&nbsp;executive order expands production of this chemical while granting liability protections to manufacturers. A lawsuit over its product labeling will be heard on April 27.
