The DOJ alleges three counts of supremacy-clause violations, claiming the policy interferes with federal law and endangers public safety. Sherrill\u2019s Executive Order 12 bars immigration officers from non-public parts of state-owned property and from using state property as a staging area or operations base; she had also proposed creating a statewide ICE video-reporting database. Sherrill and Acting New Jersey Attorney General Lauren Davenport defended the policy, saying federal focus should be on better training for ICE agents, not costly legal challenges. Greg Abbott: Texas Must Fight \u2018Federal Overreach\u2019; Biden Showing \u2018Extreme Hostility\u2019 To ...\">federal immigration law<\/a><\/a>,&rdquo; the lawsuit reads. &ldquo;The policy is designed to and in fact does interfere with and discriminate against the Executive&rsquo;s enforcement of federal immigration law in violation of the Supremacy Clause.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The DOJ claims Sherrill&rsquo;s &ldquo;blatant disregard&rdquo; for federal laws is not just &ldquo;a political statement, but is instead deliberate action that jeopardizes the public safety of all Americans.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Sherrill signed <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/nj.gov\/infobank\/eo\/057sherrill\/pdf\/EO-12.pdf\">Executive Order 12 on Feb. 11<\/a>, which not only barred immigration authorities from non-public parts of state-owned property but also prohibited them from using state property as a &ldquo;staging area, processing location, or operations base.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Her efforts against immigration enforcement went further, as she had <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/4439057\/sherrill-to-create-statewide-ice-video-reporting-database\/\">previously vowed to create a statewide database<\/a> to compile videos of officers operating throughout the state.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During an <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >unrelated news conference<\/a>, Sherrill commented on the lawsuit and said the federal government&rsquo;s <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/video\/new-jersey-gov-mikie-sherrill-gives-update-on-response-to-snowstorm-full-news-conference\/\">focus is in the wrong place<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think what the federal government needs to be focused on right now, instead of attacking states like New Jersey working to keep people safe, is actually training their[[<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ICE\" type=\"link\" id=\"washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ICE\">Immigration and Customs Enforcement<\/a>]agents with some modicum of training, like any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-secretary-of-state-investigating-voter-registration-group-run-by-democrat-raphael-warnock\/\" title=\"Georgia Secretary Of ... Investigating Voter Registration Group Run By Democrat Raphael Warnock\">law enforcement officer<\/a> in the state of New Jersey would have, so they can operate better and more safely,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Acting New Jersey Attorney General Lauren Davenport <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NewJerseyOAG\/status\/2026311897822244949?s=20\">shared similar sentiments<\/a> to Sherill.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Instead of working with us to promote public safety and protect our state&rsquo;s residents, the Trump Administration is wasting its resources on a pointless legal challenge to Governor Sherrill&rsquo;s executive order,&rdquo; Davenport said in a statement. &ldquo;Under Governor Sherrill&rsquo;s leadership, New Jersey will continue to ensure the safety of our state&rsquo;s immigrant communities.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Sherrill is not alone in establishing policies that restrict immigration operations.
