The NRA argued that Vullo used her official power to pressure state banks to cut ties wiht the NRA after the 2018 Parkland shooting. One of the cases the Supreme Court declined to take up was <em>NRA v. Vullo<\/em>, which is a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/3889752\/supreme-court-pushed-take-up-nra-free-speech-case\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/3889752\/supreme-court-pushed-take-up-nra-free-speech-case\/\">lawsuit<\/a> brought by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/expert-warns-biden-has-launched-four-prong-attack-against-second-amendment-advises-how-to-respond\/\" title=\"Expert Warns Biden Has Launched \u2018Four-Prong Attack Against\u2019 Second Amendment, Advises How To Respond\">gun rights group<\/a> against Maria Vullo, a former superintendent of New York&rsquo;s Department of Financial Services. Vullo<\/em>&nbsp;initially made its way up to the Supreme Court in 2024, after an appeals court had tossed the case, claiming that the NRA did not plausibly allege that Vullo violated the First Amendment. The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/3022102\/sotomayor-hands-nra-victory-supreme-court\/\">unanimous decision<\/a> reviving the case left open the door for Vullo to have immunity to the charges, and the appeals court found that she did indeed have immunity in its July 2025 ruling, which tossed the case again.<\/p>\n<p>The NRA returned to the Supreme Court late last year, asking it to &ldquo;clarify when a constitutional violation can be sufficiently obvious to preclude qualified immunity even in the absence of prior cases involving exactly identical facts.&rdquo; The high court declined to take up their request, leaving the appeals court&rsquo;s immunity ruling intact.<\/p>\n<p>Vullo has maintained that she committed no wrongdoing and that the allegations against her by the NRA are false.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/4409863\/supreme-court-strikes-down-trumps-sweeping-liberation-day-tariffs\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/4409863\/supreme-court-strikes-down-trumps-sweeping-liberation-day-tariffs\/\">SUPREME COURT STRIKES DOWN TRUMP&rsquo;S SWEEPING &lsquo;LIBERATION DAY&rsquo; TARIFFS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The lone case the Supreme Court decided to take up was <em>Suncor Energy Inc. v. County Commissioners of Boulder County<\/em>, which could have wide ramifications for the future of climate-related lawsuits brought by local governments against oil companies.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Suncor Energy<\/em> case asks the high court to decide whether <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >federal law prevents state law claims<\/a> for damages related to interstate and international greenhouse gas emissions. The oil companies are seeking to shut down a case in state court that could cost them billions of dollars in damages for liability related to their impact on the global climate.
