A third round is planned, and Oman\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >foreign minister expressed optimism<\/a> for a positive push toward finalizing a deal.The negotiations come as President Donald Trump has signaled willingness to strike if progress stalls, effectively setting a roughly 10-day window to either advance talks or take military action. Iran is expected to have a draft proposal ready for U.S. negotiators by Tuesday, though Tehran says it is indeed still working on it and that it does not yet have Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei\u2019s approval. A central dispute remains: Iran insists on the right to enrichment and wants talks limited to its nuclear program, while the U.S. seeks to halt enrichment and to broaden the scope to missiles and support for proxies.Iran has indicated openness to a full monitoring mechanism and a fast deal on nuclear concerns,but prospects for a rapid agreement appear slim. He has recently warned of &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rudy-giuliani-spent-half-of-his-bank-account-on-personal-expenses-despite-pressure-from-creditors-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Rudy Giuliani spent half of his bank account on personal expenses despite pressure from creditors - Washington Examiner\">bad things&#038;rdquo<\/a>; to happen if a nuclear deal is not struck.<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the talks this week, Iran is expected to have a draft of a deal proposal ready for U.S. negotiators by Tuesday, <em>Axios <\/em><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/02\/22\/iran-us-talks-friday-nuclear-deal\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/02\/22\/iran-us-talks-friday-nuclear-deal\">reported<\/a>. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Tehran was &ldquo;still working&rdquo; on that proposal, which lacks the approval of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.<\/p>\n<p>A nuclear deal has been pursued by Trump in the wake of Tehran&rsquo;s violent crackdown on anti-regime protests in January, which resulted in the deaths of thousands of protesters. He has simultaneously left the door open to a military strike after previously vowing to intervene, amassing a huge armada and military buildup in the Middle East in preparation and as a pressure tactic.<\/p>\n<p>The threat of U.S. military intervention reached new highs last week after Trump publicly <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4465324\/trump-considering-small-iran-strike\/\">revealed<\/a> that he was &ldquo;considering&rdquo; a limited strike on Iran to force the regime into a deal. That was a first since the U.S.-Iran tensions were inflamed by Tehran&rsquo;s brutal crackdown on dissent.<\/p>\n<p>The chances of a nuclear deal also seem quite low. Despite Tehran&rsquo;s assurances of progress after the previous rounds, there are unreachable demands from the regime, particularly over its nuclear program.<\/p>\n<p>It has insisted it has a right to enrichment and that a complete a halt of its nuclear program will not be considered. The U.S., meanwhile, wants Tehran to stop enrichment completely, especially after its enriched uranium was a short step away from weapons-grade level last year.<\/p>\n<p>Iran has also limited the scope of the negotiations to solely its nuclear program, which it maintains is peaceful.
