The Court ruled 6-3 that Trump did not have the authority to unilateral y impose tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, with conservative justices Thomas, Alito, and Kavanaugh dissenting. In reaction, Trump announced he would raise the worldwide tariff from 10% to 15% on many countries and framed it as a continuation of his economic agenda.A White House fact sheet described the tariffs as a tool to protect American workers, reshore production, and raise wages, noting the initial 10% tariff would be in place for 150 days. He claimed that a thorough review of what he called an anti-American decision justified raising the worldwide tariff from 10% to 15% on many countries he says have long taken advantage of the U.S., with additional tariffs to be announced in the coming months as part of his “Make America Great Again” agenda. A White House post and related materials suggested the ruling was disappointing and argued that tariffs remain a critical tool to protect American businesses and workers, reshore production, lower costs, and raise wages, while reshaping global trade.

The White House clarified in a fact sheet that the initial 10% tariffs would take effect for 150 days starting soon, and it asserted that these tariffs had already altered trading relationships by prompting major U.S. trading partners—representing more than half of global GDP—to strike historic deals opening new markets for U.S. exports and encouraging manufacturing to return home. In the broader legal context, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that Trump lacked the authority to impose tariffs under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act, a power the Constitution assigns to Congress. Conservative justices Thomas, Alito, and Kavanaugh dissented, while Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Gorsuch and Barrett joined the three liberal justices. Trump criticized some justices by name after the decision and asserted that the administration would proceed with its tariff strategy.

The passage also contains various embedded web elements, such as a video widget and site forms, alongside references to social posts and other ancillary material

[33651
5894,50406,3634
post-2572364","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-politics","tag-tariffs-2","tag-trump
["GET
