Other Democrats have also called for this, including Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/JB-Pritzker\/\">JB Pritzker<\/a> (D-IL), who <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/4466160\/pritzker-sends-invoice-trump-for-tariff-damages\/\">sent an invoice to Trump<\/a> for refunds to Illinois taxpayers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The refunds for the tariffs could amount to $175 billion, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us-tariff-revenue-risk-supreme-court-ruling-tops-175-billion-penn-wharton-2026-02-20\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us-tariff-revenue-risk-supreme-court-ruling-tops-175-billion-penn-wharton-2026-02-20\/\">according to<\/a> an estimate by the nonpartisan research group Penn Wharton Budget Model.<\/p>\n<p>Friday&rsquo;s ruling did not explicitly address refunds or outline that the federal government could keep the money it has already collected from the tariffs.<\/p>\n<p>Warren said the money the Trump administration got from the tariffs was &ldquo;not legally taken.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m sorry, when somebody takes money from you illegally, that&rsquo;s called stealing in the United States, and the first rule is you&rsquo;ve got to give the money back,&rdquo; Warren said when asked if the money should be refunded. &ldquo;That money was not legally taken from the American people. It was stolen by Donald Trump.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Make no mistake, that it has been the American consumer is the one that has paid,&rdquo; Warren added. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s time for American families to get their money back, and it&rsquo;s up to the Trump administration to make that happen.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4465406\/trump-supreme-court-tariffs-decision\/\">slammed the court&rsquo;s decision<\/a> as &ldquo;ridiculous&rdquo; and announced Saturday <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/economy\/4466584\/trump-worldwide-tariff-15-percent-supreme-court\/\">he is raising<\/a> the 10% global tariff imposed Friday to 15%.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Treasury Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Scott-Bessent\/\">Scott Bessent <\/a>has said that Americans &ldquo;won&rsquo;t see&rdquo; a tariff refund and that a &ldquo;payout&rdquo; would be &ldquo;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2026-02-20\/bessent-says-tariff-revenue-to-be-virtually-unchanged-in-2026\">ultimate corporate welfare<\/a>,&rdquo; hours after the Supreme Court decision was released.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As the president said, the Supreme Court was very discombobulated on this.
