Two of the justices in the majority, Justices Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, were nominated by Trump, while Kavanaugh was the lone Trump nominee in the dissent. The president gushed about Kavanaugh&rsquo;s dissent, which outlined how Trump could still issue tariffs using other laws, and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/supreme-court\/4465042\/brett-kavanaugh-serious-practical-consequences-supreme-court-trump-tariff-ruling\/\">slammed the majority&rsquo;s decision<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trump specifically pointed to Kavanaugh&rsquo;s argument that the majority &ldquo;decision might not substantially constrain a President&rsquo;s ability to order tariffs going forward,&rdquo; and that &ldquo;numerous other federal statutes authorize the President to impose tariffs and might justify most (if not all) of the tariffs at issue in this case.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He is right,&rdquo; Trump said about Kavanaugh&rsquo;s dissent. &ldquo;In fact, I could charge much more than I was charging.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump also praised the other two justices who dissented from the majority, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You have to do what is right for the Constitution, which is why I respect so much Justices Thomas, Alito, and Kavanaugh. They not only dissented, but they dissented so strong,&rdquo; Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The good news is, like Justice Kavanaugh very strongly said, you have other ways you can go. There are numerous other ways you can go,&rdquo; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Trump nominated Kavanaugh in 2018 to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy and stood by him despite allegations of sexual assault from decades prior that emerged against Kavanaugh during his confirmation process. Kavanaugh has unequivocally denied the allegations, which were never proven and contained inconsistencies.
