Breaker Media says the updated guidelines require promotions to be integrated into journalistic discussions, prohibit the use of websites or QR codes to drive personal sales, and bar anchors from promoting a book after its publication day. The move is viewed as targeting Jake Tapper\u2019s promotion of his May 2025 tell-all, Original Sin, about President Biden, which drew heavy airtime and criticism. Tapper is said to be unhappy with the changes and has allegedly rallied other CNN anchors to voice displeasure to CEO Mark Thompson, though CNN has not publicly confirmed these details.
