The aims are to flip three GOP-held U.S. House seats (Districts 3, 5, and 8) to Democrats for the 2028 cycle. The group, Coloradans for a Level Playing Field, is partly funded by House Majority PAC, according to The New York Times. Republicans argue the move would override independent commissions and preserve GOP districts, while supporters say it\u2019s a necessary check against mid-decade gerrymandering. Though they use different means to get there, each of the measures would suspend the current congressional maps and approve a new map for the 2028 and 2030 elections, and then give the power back to the state&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/4-devastating-consequences-of-the-democrat-for-the-people-act\/\" title=\"4 Devastating Consequences Of The Democrat \u2018For The People Act...\">independent redistricting commission<\/a> after the 2030 census.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the Colorado Republican Committee started a petition to keep the maps as they are.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;In 2018,&nbsp;over 70% of Coloradans&nbsp;voted to create&nbsp;Independent Redistricting Commissions&nbsp;for our State Legislature and Congress. Now, Democrats like&nbsp;[Colorado Attorney General] Phil Weiser&nbsp;are trying to&nbsp;gerrymander&nbsp;away Republican seats in&nbsp;Congress,&rdquo; the Colorado GOP wrote on <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/cologop\/status\/2024455412972388605?s=20\">the petition<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Colorado&rsquo;s congressional delegation is currently split evenly, with four Republicans and four Democrats. The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2026\/02\/localimages\/Plan-Map-v2-scaled.png\">Democratic-proposed map<\/a> would target the state&rsquo;s 3rd, 5th, and 8th Congressional Districts, each held respectively by Reps. Jeff Hurd (R-CO), Jeff Crank (R-CO), and Gabe Evans (R-CO).<\/p>\n<p>Evans&rsquo;s seat in the 8th District is highly competitive to begin with. He bested his opponent, Democratic former Rep.
