The indictment, brought by then-AG Matt Platkin, charged Norcross and five others wiht schemes tied to Camden waterfront advancement and tax credits. An appellate court in January upheld that the charges were either untimely or failed to state a proper offense, leading Davenport’s office to say there is no value in seeking further review and that prosecutorial resources will be directed elsewhere. Norcross’s spokesman criticized Platkin, arguing the case lacked merit and accusing others of using “lawfare.” The piece notes Norcross’s long-standing influence in Camden County and references a separate Murphy-era comptroller investigation into his insurance group, Conner Strong & Buckelew, which denied any wrongdoing.

New Jersey AG will not challenge George Norcross indictment ruling

Gov. Mikie Sherrill‘s (D-NJ) newly tapped attorney general announced the state would not appeal an appellate court’s dismissal of the indictment against South Jersey Democratic power broker George Norcross.

New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport will not pursue the prosecution against Norcross, signaling a significant departure from the priorities of her predecessor, Matt Platkin, the attorney general under former Democratic Gov.
