It notes Lutnick\u2019s alleged ongoing relationship with Epstein after Epstein\u2019s 2008 conviction, including a 2012 business deal and meetings related to Epstein\u2019s private island, and mentions Trump\u2019s claim of not being aware of Lutnick\u2019s 2012 visit. In return, he only spent 13 months in prison. Epstein was later arrested on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ghislaine-maxwell-pleads-not-guilty-to-federal-sex-trafficking-charges\/\" title=\"Ghislaine Maxwell pleads not guilty to federal sex trafficking charges\">federal sex trafficking charges<\/a> before his apparent suicide in August 2019.<\/p>\n<p>After Epstein and Lutnick first met in 2005, the latter claimed he cut ties with the financier immediately. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >investigative documents recently released<\/a> by the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/justice-department\/\">Department of Justice<\/a> showed that Lutnick retained a strong relationship with Epstein following his 2008 conviction and even maintained a business partnership with him as recently as 2014.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2012, the two men signed an agreement to acquire stakes in a now-shuttered advertising technology company. That same month, Lutnick and his family planned to visit Epstein&rsquo;s private island.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump<\/a> said he was <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4456567\/trump-says-not-aware-lutnick-2012-visit-epstein-island\/\">previously unaware<\/a> of Lutnick&rsquo;s 2012 visit to Epstein&rsquo;s island. Trump also boasted that he was &ldquo;never there&rdquo; himself.<\/p>\n<p>Lutnick says he merely had &ldquo;limited interactions&rdquo; with Epstein, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/4452417\/howard-lutnick-downplays-epstein-relations-senate-testimony\/\">downplaying<\/a> the extent of their relationship. After appearing in the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/epstein-files\/\">Epstein files<\/a>, he is now facing scrutiny from Congress.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It is shameful that he is actually in our government,&rdquo; Garcia said of Lutnick. &ldquo;He should not be the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-commerce-secy-pick-takes-soft-stance-on-china\/\" title=\"Biden\u2019s commerce secy. pick takes soft stance on China\">commerce secretary<\/a>. He should come talk to the oversight committee.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Despite the Democratic ranking member&rsquo;s wish to question Lutnick himself, the Republican chairman said subpoenaing the administration official is not his primary concern right now because he fears it may &ldquo;jeopardize&rdquo; the five scheduled depositions for individuals connected to Epstein.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4451159\/trump-stands-by-howard-lutnick-jeffrey-epstein-blowback\/\">WHITE HOUSE STANDS BY HOWARD LUTNICK AS EPSTEIN FILES FALLOUT GROWS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;ll see what happens here, and we&rsquo;ll move forward,&rdquo; Comer told reporters last week when asked about the possibility of subpoenaing Lutnick. &ldquo;We&rsquo;re interested in talking to anyone that might have any information that would help us get justice for the survivors.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/ghislaine-maxwell\/\">Ghislaine Maxwell<\/a>, an accomplice of Epstein, invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and demanded clemency from Trump in return for her cooperation during a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4450852\/ghislaine-maxwell-pleads-fifth-demands-clemency-jeffrey-epstein-investigation\/\">closed-door deposition<\/a> last Monday.
