It is not something that just happened in New York City is something<\/span> <span class=\"cursor-pointer group\" title=\"Play starting at 1:58\"><span class=\"group-hover:bg-base-200 rounded p-0.5 -m-0.5 bg-primary\/25 transition-all duration-200\" data-start=\"118180\" data-end=\"122200\" data-active=\"\">that we are seeing grow within the Democratic Party at this particular point when we&rsquo;re talking<\/span><\/span><span class=\"opacity-80 text-sm\" data-timestamp=\"\">&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"cursor-pointer group\" title=\"Play starting at 2:02\">about 42 percent of Democrats under the age of 35 identifying as Democratic Socialists<\/span> <span class=\"cursor-pointer group\" title=\"Play starting at 2:06\">and a third of all Democrats.&rdquo;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A majority of all voters, 58 percent, in the U.S. believe the Democratic Party is too liberal, which is a big jump from the 48 percent who said the same in 2013 and the 42 percent in 1996, Enten said.<\/p>\n<p>Far-left Democratic candidates have come into power in recent elections, most notably Democratic New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/election\/2025\/results\/new-york-city-mayor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">won<\/a> the mayoral race against former Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo 50.8 percent to 41.3 percent of the vote in November.<\/p>\n<p>Mamdani campaigned on rent freezes, government-run buses and grocery stores, and has called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be abolished.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, independent Vermont Sen.
