Key points include:

– Inflation data: The Bureau of Labour Statistics shows the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 2.4% over the previous 12 months, down from 2.7% in December. Energy prices fell about 1.5%, and rent rose a modest 0.2%.Excluding food and energy, the core CPI was up 2.5%, the lowest as April 2021, wiht economists’ expectations aligning at 2.5%.

– Political reaction: Former President Donald Trump is quoted praising the decline in inflation and arguing the economy is “back on track,” contrasting with his opponents’ handling of inflation.

– Past context: The article traces inflation dynamics too the Biden era, noting that inflation began rising after the March 2021 American Rescue Plan (ARP).Inflation peaked at about 9.1% in mid-2022. Prominent economists like Larry Summers and Steven Rattner warned that aggressive fiscal stimulus contributed to inflation, calling the ARP “the original sin” behind higher prices.

– Economic theories and policy claims: The piece frames supply-side economics (tax cuts and deregulation) as a key factor in reducing inflation, arguing that lower government spending and higher private-sector production can curb price pressures. It cites arguments that biden-era spending increased demand without sufficient supply, whereas Trump-era policies aimed to boost supply and private investment.

– Wage discussion: some outlets and social media posts claim real wages rose under Trump (despite inflation), portraying wage gains as outpacing inflation. The article presents these claims within a broader media narrative that contrasts wage trends under diffrent administrations.

– Media coverage and commentary: The text includes quotes and tweets from various outlets (CNN,Fox News, and others) and political figures, illustrating a polarized discussion about inflation, wages, and policy.

– Meta-content: The page contains dynamic features (read-more toggles, ad slots, and embedded scripts) and promotional elements, indicating a commercially driven online article structure.

In short, the piece combines the latest CPI data with a partisan narrative about the causes of inflation, contrasting Trump-era supply-side policies with Biden-era stimulus, and highlighting debates among economists about the sustainability of inflation trends and real wage changes.

Inflation came in cooler than expected in January, and the lowest annual rate that it has been since April 2021, shortly after President Joe Biden took office.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the Consumer Price Index rose 2.4 percent over the last 12 months, which is down from 2.7 percent in December.

Energy prices fell 1.5 percent in January, helping to bring the CPI to the 2.4 percent level, and rent also came in at a low 0.2 percent increase, the BLS said.

“Excluding food and energy, the core CPI was up 2.5%, the lowest level since April 2021. The Bureau of Labor Statistics said CPI rose 2.4% in the last 12 months, down from 2.7% in December. Energy prices fell 1.5%, and rents rose only 0.2%, helping pull the overall index down. Excluding food and energy, the core CPI rose 2.5%, the lowest since April 2021. Economists surveyed had expected 2.5% for both overall and core readings. In response, President Trump said the inflation numbers are “way down” and that inflation is back on track.

The piece also includes social-media-style posts and commentary about wages. Fox News indicated that real wages rose about 1.25% under Trump after falling about 1.4% under Biden, suggesting wage gains outpaced inflation during Trump’s term. CNN’s Matt Egan described the inflation news as encouraging, noting the cost of living moving in the right direction even with tariffs still in place from the previous year. Other posts amplified claims that real-wage growth has surged under Trump, portraying the situation as favorable for the 2026 midterms.

The article goes on to discuss inflation trends during the Biden administration, noting that inflation rose after the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan (ARP) was enacted in March 2021. It contrasts Biden’s period with Trump’s, where inflation averaged around 1.9% during his four years and spiked after ARP, reaching as high as 9.1% in June 2022. It cites warnings from economists like Larry Summers and Steven Rattner that the ARP could fuel inflation, describing the ARP as the “original sin” behind higher prices. The piece also frames a policy debate around supply‑side economics and tax cuts, arguing that expanding private-sector production can help curb inflation, while critics say spending and restrictions can push prices up.
