That lower court ruling was preventing the referendum from being official, even though Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/abigail-spanberger\/\">Abigail Spanberger<\/a> (D-VA) <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4448796\/abigail-spanberger-sends-abortion-same-sex-marriage-amendments-voters\/\">signed a bill<\/a> sending the constitutional amendment to voters last week.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats had appealed to the Supreme Court that the Tazewell County Circuit Court&nbsp;ruling that Democrats in the legislature <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4435981\/virginia-judge-halts-democrats-efforts-for-redistricting-referendum-in-april\/\">acted against proper procedure<\/a>, striking down the referendum and determining that the current map must stay in place until 2028.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the state Supreme Court allowing the referendum, the decision may not be final.
