Rep. Robert Garcia and other Michigan Democrats have opened an inquiry into trump\u2019s move,which would allow the Gordie Howe Bridge to open and challenge the Ambassador Bridge\u2019s toll monopoly.Garcia contends the Moroun family,long-time Trump donors,lobbied to halt the project and pressed for Cabinet interference after meeting Lutnick,and he has requested all related documents from the Commerce Department and White House. Robert Garcia (D-CA), the top Democrat on the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/house-oversight-committee\/\">House oversight committee<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia launched an investigation Thursday into President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump&rsquo;s<\/a> move to block the new Gordie Howe International Bridge, which will also span from Detroit to Canada and end the Ambassador Bridge owners&rsquo; monopoly in truck tolling in the area, from opening. The congressman is seeking to examine any files or communications referencing the Gordie Howe International Bridge and the Ambassador Bridge that circulated between the family, the Commerce Department, and the White House.<\/p>\n<p>The Moroun family has spent <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.detroitnews.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2026\/02\/13\/moroun-ambassador-bridge-owner-lobbied-trump-administration-ahead-of-gordie-howe-bridge-threats\/88646343007\/\">$250,000 lobbying D.C.<\/a> to advocate for the company on &ldquo;issues related to construction and operation of international bridges,&rdquo; according to the <em>Detroit News<\/em>.&nbsp;The family used the lobbying firm Ballard Partners, which was formerly run by Trump&rsquo;s White House chief of staff, Susie Wiles.<\/p>\n<p>In response to questions from the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, a White House official said, &ldquo;the only special interest guiding the President&rsquo;s decision-making is the best interest of the American people.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Putting Americans and America First may be a foreign concept for Democrats, but the Trump administration will continue to prioritize America&rsquo;s national security and economic interests above all else,&rdquo;&nbsp;the official said.<\/p>\n<p>The White House has previously said Trump was concerned that Canada has too much control over the bridge and is taking advantage of the United States. The U.S. should own <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/infrastructure\/4453200\/leavitt-trump-wants-us-own-half-gordie-howe-bridge\/\">at least half of the bridge<\/a>, share authority over its traffic, and receive the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-outlines-new-demands-for-gordie-howe-bridge-to-carney\/\" title=\"Trump outlines new demands for ... to Carney\">economic benefits generated<\/a> by its use, Trump&rsquo;s team said.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan Democrats are leading efforts to override Trump&rsquo;s block on the Gordie Howe bridge.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Reps.
