Kathy Hochul in the 2026 Democratic primary after launching last June but failing to gain traction. He said there is no <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >viable path forward<\/a>, will support Democrats to hold the line against Trump, and plans to work toward a more humane, affordable, and equitable state. Hochul responded with a dismissive note, focusing on the general election and arguing the Democratic Party is united to win back the House and defeat Trump\u2019s allies; her camp also praised the party\u2019s strength heading into November.<\/p>\n<p>Delgado\u2019s exit comes amid a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ferguson-police-officer-critically-injured-by-violent-protesters-on-10th-anniversary-of-michael-browns-death\/\" title=\"Ferguson Police Officer Critically Injured by Violent &#039;Protesters&#039; on 10th Anniversary of Michael Brown&#039;s Death\">historically tense relationship<\/a> with Hochul, marked by public disagreements since their 2022 election and past clashes over Biden\u2019s leadership. And though my campaign has come to an end, I fully intend to do all I can in our effort to build a more humane, affordable, and equitable state that serves all New Yorkers. I will also support Democrats in our effort to hold the line against Trump and take back our democracy,&rdquo; Delgado said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I do not make this decision lightly, particularly given that so many have poured their belief into our campaign and are desperate to be given a voice,&rdquo; he added, thanking those who supported his campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul was dismissive of the news, casting her sights on the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2026-election\/\">general election<\/a> in November and saying the Democratic Party &ldquo;is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KathyHochul\/status\/2021292204455604610\">focused, united, and ready<\/a> to take back the House and beat President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\">Donald Trump&rsquo;s<\/a> enablers this November,&rdquo; all without mentioning Delgado.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul campaign communications director Sarafina Chitika was similarly dismissive, telling Fox News the incumbent governor &ldquo;spent all year uniting her big-tent party around a vision for affordability and safety for every <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\/\">New York<\/a> family.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Thanks to her leadership, our campaign and our party are strong and ready to defeat Donald Trump and his enablers up and down the ballot, take back the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/news\/house\/\">House<\/a>, and hand [Republican candidate for governor] Bruce Blakeman yet another loss this November,&rdquo; Chitika said. &ldquo;Donald Trump and Bruce Blakeman are united in their efforts to raise costs on working families, send masked [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] agents into our streets to terrorize innocent communities, and wage war on New York kids. Our party is now just as united to stop them.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Delgado&rsquo;s drop-out is the latest strike of good fortune for Hochul, who has seen repeated victories fall into her lap over the past few months. Her two most viable Republican rivals, Reps. Mike Lawler (R-NY) and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/elise-stefanik\/\">Elise Stefanik<\/a> (R-NY) opted not to run and to drop out, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Delgado and Hochul enjoy a contentious relationship, falling from great heights since they were elected in 2022. In a June 2025 <em>New York Times<\/em> interview, he said his <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/06\/02\/nyregion\/antonio-delgado-governor-hochul.html\">relationship with the governor<\/a> began to sour just months after the election, though tensions came out into the open over the summer of last year, when he broke with Hochul&rsquo;s support for then-President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\">Joe Biden<\/a> by asking him to drop out after a poor June 2024 debate performance. In February 2025, he broke with Hochul again in calling on New York Mayor <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/eric-adams\/\">Eric Adams<\/a> to resign, prompting his boss to release a statement saying he &ldquo;does not now and has not ever spoken on behalf of this administration.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>After Delgado hinted at a primary challenge late last February, Hochul&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/kathy-hochul-antonio-delgado-primary-challenge-hint\/\">confiscated<\/a>&nbsp;his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hochul-lieutenant-antonio-delgado-to-run-against-new-york-governor-in-2026-democratic-primary-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"... lieutenant ... to run against New York ... in ... - Washington Examiner\">state-issued electronic devices<\/a>, took away much of his staff, and stripped him of his office space in New York City and the Hudson Valley.
