The deposition date is set for February 9.<\/p>\n<p>Maxwell was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison in June 2022 for <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >helping epstein sexually abuse teenage girls<\/a>. The deposition is part of the committee\u2019s broader inquiry into epstein\u2019s activities. House Oversight Chairman James Comer said Maxwell would be deposed as part of the effort to compel testimony and transparency regarding the Epstein files.<\/p>\n<p>Some lawmakers, including Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie, have pushed for full release of Epstein-related materials through the Epstein Files Transparency Act. khanna criticized Maxwell\u2019s plan to invoke the Fifth, suggesting it is inconsistent with her prior meetings with the Department of Justice and proposing questions about whether she ever facilitated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ghislaine-maxwell-now-accusing-prison-guard-of-abuse\/\" title=\"... He Was Just Charged Again.\">convicted sex offender<\/a> and deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein, is expected to invoke her Fifth Amendment privileges in Monday&rsquo;s congressional deposition before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.<\/p>\n<p>David Markus, Maxwell&rsquo;s attorney, <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/5729001-epstein-case-maxwell-deposition\/\">revealed<\/a> his client&rsquo;s forthcoming decision on NewsNation. The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/constitution.congress.gov\/constitution\/amendment-5\/\">Fifth Amendment<\/a> grants Maxwell protection against self-incrimination. In addition to being his romantic partner, Maxwell was an integral part of Epstein&rsquo;s trafficking operations. Her lawyers have been saying that she&rsquo;s going to plead the Fifth, but we have nailed down a date, Feb. 9, where Ghislaine Maxwell will be deposed by the committee.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Reps. Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Thomas Massie (R-KY) have been two of the most vocal members of Congress calling for the full release of the Epstein files. They introduced the bipartisan <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/department-justice-publishes-35-million-responsive-pages-compliance-epstein-files\">Epstein Files Transparency Act<\/a> in 2025, which was later signed into law by President Donald Trump.
