The infectious disease expert \u2014 who has served through seven presidential administrations in his current position \u2014 quickly assumed a leading role in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the past year, however, many Americans have expressed frustration over Dr. Fauci\u2019s seemingly fluid public health guidelines.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>For example, at one point, Fauci <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-5-different-mask-policies-held-by-dr-fauci-in-11-months\"><span>told<\/span><\/a><span> Americans that face masks were unnecessary. He then pivoted toward encouraging face coverings, later instructing vaccinated Americans to continue wearing masks. Most recently, he said that Americans ought to consider wearing two masks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Lawmakers have likewise noticed Dr. Fauci\u2019s changing standards. Here are three heated exchanges between the nation\u2019s top public health professional and leading members of Congress.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rand Paul \u2014 Vaccine and two masks<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>During a March 18 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/rand-paul-in-heated-exchange-with-fauci\"><span>hearing<\/span><\/a><span>, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) pointed out that Fauci\u2019s decision to wear two masks after receiving the vaccine was a strange move, especially in light of Fauci\u2019s role in assuring Americans of the vaccine\u2019s efficacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cYou\u2019ve been vaccinated and you parade around in two masks for show,\u201d noted Sen. Paul, an ophthalmologist and graduate of the Duke University School of Medicine. \u201cYou can\u2019t get it again. There\u2019s virtually 0% chance you\u2019re gonna get it, and yet you\u2019re telling people that have had the vaccine, that have immunity \u2014 you\u2019re defying everything we know about immunity by telling people to wear masks that have been vaccinated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cYou want to get rid of vaccine hesitancy? Wearing masks after they get the vaccine? You want people to get the vaccine? Give them a reward instead of telling them that the nanny state is going to be there for three more years and you gotta wear a mask forever,\u201d said Paul. \u201cPeople don\u2019t want to hear it; there\u2019s no science behind it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cLet me state just for the record that masks are not theater. Masks are protective,\u201d Fauci immediately declared.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIf you have immunity they\u2019re theater,\u201d Sen. Paul shot back. \u201cIf you already have immunity, you\u2019re wearing a mask to give comfort to others, you\u2019re not wearing a mask because of any science.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Despite studies showing that COVID-19 vaccines are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/astrazeneca-pfizer-covid-19-vaccines-effective-against-variants-oxford-study\"><span>effective<\/span><\/a><span> against other strains of COVID-19, Fauci justified his position by stating that one may not necessarily have immunity with a \u201ccirculating variant.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Jim Jordan \u2014 Black Lives Matter protests<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>During the summer of 2020, politicians across the United States seemed to show far more zeal in enforcing COVID-19 regulations for businesses and church services in comparison to Black Lives Matter protests. When Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/do-you-see-the-inconsistency-jim-jordan-grills-fauci-on-protests-church-during-pandemic\"><span>asked<\/span><\/a><span> Dr. Fauci if he would encourage officials to uphold their standards more consistently, Fauci refused to take a concrete position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWell, I\u2019m not in a position to determine what the government can do in a forceful way,\u201d said the nation\u2019s leading public health official in response to Rep. Jordan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWell, you make all kinds of recommendations,\u201d retorted the congressman. \u201cYou make comments on dating, on baseball, on everything you can imagine. I\u2019m just asking, you just said protests increase the spread. I\u2019m just asking should we try to limit the protest?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Fauci doubled down: \u201cI think I would leave that to people who have more of a position to do that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>After Fauci insisted multiple times that he was \u201cnot going to opine on limiting anything,\u201d Rep. Jordan asked, \u201cDo you see the inconsistency, though, Dr. Fauci?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere\u2019s no inconsistency, congressman,\u201d he replied.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Rand Paul \u2014 Reopening schools<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span>As the United States began emerging from economic lockdowns in May of 2020, Dr. Fauci <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/watch-rand-paul-spars-with-fauci-ridiculous-to-cancel-school-in-the-fall-i-dont-think-youre-the-end-all\"><span>warned<\/span><\/a><span> the Senate that the nation could see another uptick in cases. He also suggested that schools ought to remain closed through the fall semester \u2014 a point which Sen. Paul immediately challenged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI think that \u2026 we\u2019re going to have a national one-size-fits-all approach \u2014 nobody\u2019s going to go to school, is kind of ridiculous,\u201d Sen. Paul said to Fauci. \u201cWe really ought to be doing it school district by school district, and the power needs to be dispersed because people make wrong predictions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe ought to have a little bit of humility in our belief that we know what\u2019s best for the economy,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd, as much as I respect you, Dr. Fauci, I don\u2019t think you\u2019re the end-all. I don\u2019t think you\u2019re the one person that gets to make the decision.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSen.
