Killing Louisiana babies isn&rsquo;t healthcare, nor is <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGLizMurrill\/status\/2019616077806801319\">shielding California drug dealers<\/a>. See ya soon,&rdquo; she responded.<\/p>\n<p>Murrill is a co-plaintiff in a federal lawsuit against the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/usda\/\">Food and Drug Administration<\/a> that centers on Coeytaux. Lead plaintiff Rosalie Markezich alleges her boyfriend at the time used her email address to order abortion drugs from Coeytaux and pressured her into taking the pills. The lawsuit ultimately seeks to <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/d31hzlhk6di2h5.cloudfront.net\/20250930\/7d\/33\/76\/d4\/77b44985cf5988c023b70f81\/2025.09.19__DI_264-2__Proposed_Complaint.pdf\">require in-person doctors&rsquo; visits<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/newsom-blasts-louisiana-for-targeting-ca-doctor-on-abortion-f\/\" title=\"Newsom blasts ... &#039;for targeting CA ... on ...: &#039;F***&#039;\">obtain abortion drugs mifepristone<\/a> and misoprostol. Louisiana issued an arrest warrant for Coeytaux in 2024, and he was indicted on Jan. 8 in St. Tammany Parish.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is not <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/policy\/healthcare\/\">healthcare<\/a>; it&rsquo;s drug dealing. Individuals who <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aglizmurrill.com\/Article\/409\">flagrantly and intentionally violate our laws<\/a> by sending illegal abortion pills into our state placing women in danger. We&rsquo;ve seen the proof of that, with women showing up in emergency rooms after taking these pills and being coerced into abortions,&rdquo; Murrill said after Coeytaux was indicted.<\/p>\n<p>California isn&rsquo;t alone in resisting Murrill&rsquo;s effort to pursue charges against doctors accused of prescribing abortion drugs to women in Louisiana in violation of state law. Democrats Gov. Kathy Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James of New York <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NewYorkStateAG\/status\/1890190489963622816\">have also resisted<\/a> Murrill&rsquo;s attempt to see Carpenter extradited to Louisiana to face charges. A West Baton Rouge Parish grand jury indicted the New York doctor last year for providing pills to a Port Allen woman for her pregnant daughter, who was a minor at the time.<\/p>\n<p>James blasted Murrill&rsquo;s belief that abortion is not healthcare in response to Carpenter&rsquo;s indictment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Abortion care is health care. The criminalization of abortion care is a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/ag.ny.gov\/press-release\/2025\/attorney-general-james-releases-statement-response-louisiana-indictment-new-york\">direct and brazen attack on Americans&rsquo; bodily autonomy<\/a> and their right to reproductive freedom. This cowardly attempt out of Louisiana to weaponize the law against out-of-state providers is unjust and un-American. We will not allow bad actors to undermine our providers&rsquo; ability to deliver critical care. Medication abortion is safe, effective, and necessary, and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\/\">New York <\/a>will ensure that it remains available to all Americans who need it,&rdquo; she said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But Murrill responded by vowing to sue the state.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/congressional\/4423074\/trump-endorses-potential-cassidy-challenger-senate-race\/\">TRUMP ENDORSES POTENTIAL CASSIDY CHALLENGER IN LOUISIANA SENATE RACE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Kathy Hochul and Gavin Newsom are not above the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/constitution\/\">Constitution<\/a>, and we will hold them accountable. The Supreme Court&rsquo;s precedents on important Constitutional provisions like the Extradition Clause and the Full Faith and Credit Clause forbid this <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGLizMurrill\/status\/2019473958009971022\">assault on Louisiana&rsquo;s sovereignty<\/a> and her citizens,&rdquo; she said in a statement this week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Murrill says &ldquo;shield laws,&rdquo; including those in New York and California, that <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >protect doctors prescribing abortion medication<\/a> from liability in states that have restricted abortion access, make it harder to sue or prosecute.
