The column also uncovers an email chain showing how a politician’s request to meet Woody Allen ended up in Jeffrey Epstein’s inbox, and it rounds up two rapid reads on political shifts and Epstein ties.

– Noem at the border: Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem travels to nogales, Arizona, to emphasize a return to business as usual after last week’s controversy over immigration tactics. Officials say she plans to meet frontline officers, announce that every field officer in Minneapolis will be equipped with body cameras, and frame the border visit as a hands-on effort to address staff concerns and resource needs. The week’s scrutiny centered on immigration enforcement, including disputed police-related incidents in Minneapolis, with insiders noting Noem’s job remains secure for now but DHS remains a flashpoint in broader government funding debates.

– Kennedy Center renovation: trump governance officials say the Kennedy Center closure is not a “design” stunt but a necesary, long-overdue maintenance and modernization project. A PR push argues the temporary shutdown will revive a national cultural landmark after decades of deferred maintenance, though some questions linger about the timing of the July 4 start.

– Woody Allen and Epstein email: A 2011 email thread shows attempts to arrange a meeting with Woody Allen that later surfaced in Jeffrey Epstein’s inbox, revealing how invitations to influential figures could travel through intermediaries. The report raises questions about access and the pathways by which political associates could connect with Epstein.

– Lunchtime reading: Quick links highlight broader political shifts and context, including an item on Florida Republicans exiting Congress and a piece by Peter Mandelson reflecting on epstein’s lingering notoriety.
