Speaking on Fox News Live, York noted this shutdown is partial\u2014affecting DHS, the Pentagon and the State Department\u2014rather than a full government closure. <\/p>\n<p>The Senate averted a complete shutdown by approving a two-week stopgap for DHS while negotiators continue talks over reforms. House Democrats, led by Hakeem Jeffries and echoed by Chuck Schumer, have demanded sweeping DHS changes\u2014such as ending masking for federal agents, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/jeffries-says-dramatic-reform-to-dhs-must-precede-shutdown-vote\/\" title=\"Jeffries says &#039;dramatic reform&#039; to ... must precede ... vote\">mandatory body cameras<\/a> and expanded use of judicial warrants\u2014before funding is approved. York argued that attaching conditions to reopening tends to backfire politically.<\/p>\n<p>House Speaker Mike Johnson said he expects a new funding bill to pass the House quickly and predicted the shutdown could end soon; however, his slim GOP majority means he can only afford to lose one Republican vote. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/4438020\/chuck-schumer-lays-ice-demands-avoid-government-shutdown\/\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/congress-battles-biden-admin-in-bid-to-ban-iranian-president-from-us-soil\/\" title=\"Congress Battles Biden Admin in Bid To Ban Iranian President From US Soil\">made similar demands<\/a><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The appropriations bill for DHS was the only one of six bills that was not passed, with senators agreeing on a two<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schumer-and-jeffries-demand-meeting-with-trump-as-shutdown-looms\/\" title=\"Schumer and Jeffries demand meeting with Trump as ... looms\">-week stopgap funding<\/a> the agency while negotiations about reform are ongoing.&nbsp;Democratic lawmakers are requesting an end to masking for federal agents, a mandatory body camera requirement, and broader use of judicial warrants, among other things.<\/p>\n<p>However, York recommended the House and Senate pass a bill before agreeing on reformations. Johnson predicted the shutdown could end as soon as Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>In the House, the bill would only need a simple majority, though the GOP&rsquo;s is slim.
