White parent\u2019s children are benefitting from the system,\u201d the training reads. \u201cThey are perceiving that they are going to lose something. Fear of loss. Hard to let go of power\/privilege.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Another part of the training tells teachers to not let parents \u201cdeter\u201d them from teaching social justice issues.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cYou can\u2019t let parents deter you from the work \u2013 mission statement (preparing students for the real world) \u2013 some students learn within school about the real world due to not learning at home about diversity (LGBTQ, race, etc.).\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The equity training provided breakout sessions for employees to learn about topics such as \u201cwhiteness\u201d in educational spaces, affinity groups, the \u201cprison pipeline,\u201d and \u201cmicroaggressions\u201d in the workspace. One seminar was called \u201cracial mapping of Raleigh.\u201d&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Schools across the nation tend to hide that they are teaching critical race theory to children for fear of retribution \u2014 WCPSS did no such thing. The training passed out a graphic that explicitly explained how critical race theory can be applied in the school setting.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The handout read:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote readability=\"19\">\n<p><i><span>Applying [Critical Race Theory] In The Classroom:&nbsp;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Authentic caring \u2013 Holding high expectations as well as providing a high level of care, concern, and support to all students in need.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Reframing Responsibility \u2013 Relentless focus on adults not children as the target for change with the indicators in the student outcomes.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Institutional Nurturing \u2013 Individuals caring is not enough. The institution must function in a race-responsive way toward equity.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Culturally Responsive \u2013 Adjusting teaching to responding to the cultural needs and learning styles of each student.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Another handout identified characteristics that are considered \u201cdominant white cultural values and habits.\u201d Examples included being transactional, showing emotional restraint, being efficient, self-sufficiency, being competitive, and having winners and losers.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-journal.org\/critical-race-theory-in-wake-county-nc-schools\"><span>City Journal<\/span><\/a><span>, WCPSS\u2019 Office of Equity Affairs has a $1 million budget. The school uses this budget to host trainings as well as invest in curriculum development.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The district emphasized five \u201cessential learning\u201d elements which include having \u201ccourageous conversations\u201d about race, becoming \u201ccolor-conscious\u201d instead of race-neutral, developing identities for all affinity groups, promoting a \u201cculturally relevant pedagogy,\u201d and examining power and privilege.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies and counter-cultural outlets for news, opinion, and entertainment.
