Doescher described Warsh as an institutionalist who might reduce more extreme White house attacks on the Fed\u2019s independence. She criticized the White House for politicizing the Fed by directing the justice Department to open a criminal probe into Powell, calling that different from a legitimate criminal inquiry \u2014 such as the investigation into Fed governor Lisa Cook over alleged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ex-trump-aide-paul-manafort-cant-be-prosecuted-in-new-york-following-pardon-court-rules\/\" title=\"Ex-Trump Aide Paul Manafort Can\u2019t Be Prosecuted in New York Following Pardon, Court Rules\">mortgage fraud<\/a>. He checks off all the right boxes, and means that hopefully Trump can dial back the more out there attacks on the Fed&rsquo;s independence,&rdquo; she added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Doescher argued the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/section\/news\/white-house\/\">White House<\/a> made the Fed &ldquo;political&rdquo; by directing the<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/department-of-justice\/\"> Justice Department<\/a> to launch a criminal investigation into Powell.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She said there wasn&rsquo;t &ldquo;market panic&rdquo; after the Justice Department launched a criminal investigation into Fed governor <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lisa-cook\/\">Lisa Cook<\/a> over allegations of mortgage fraud, arguing that such allegations constitute a &ldquo;legitimate cause&rdquo; to remove a governor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Everyone understands mortgage fraud is a legitimate cause to remove a Fed governor. That&rsquo;s a crime.
