Core inflation rose 0.7% on a monthly basis, well above expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Friday morning&rsquo;s report on producer prices comes after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breitbart-business-digest-biden-disapproves-of-americas-disapproval-of-him\/\" title=\"Breitbart Business Digest: Biden Disapproves of America\u2019s Disapproval of Him\">consumer price index report showed<\/a> that inflation <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/4415416\/prices-rose-2025-inflation-stalked-economy\/\">trended down<\/a> in 2025. While lower inflation is a favorable development for Trump&rsquo;s political process, the decline has not steep enough to improve the public&rsquo;s perceptions of the economy. Measures of consumer sentiment and household economic confidence remain historically low. <\/p>\n<p>Inflation rose 2.7% the year ending in December, according to the CPI. The Fed&rsquo;s target is 2%.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed typically keeps <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/summers-were-at-or-on-the-brink-of-inflation-spiral-its-gotten-harder-to-fix-while-avoiding-recession\/\" title=\"Summers: We&#039;re at or on the Brink of ... In recent months, though, the central bank has begun cutting rates, in large part because officials have been concerned about softening in the labor market.<\/p>\n<p>Still, at its first meeting of 2026 this week, the Fed voted to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sp-500-nasdaq-futures-rise-as-investors-pin-hopes-on-fed-pause\/\" title=\"S&amp;P 500 and Nasdaq futures up on hopes of ... pause.\">hold interest rates steady<\/a>, citing lingering concerns about too-high inflation and the relatively stable labor market. This year is likely to feature fewer interest rate revisions, as the central bank works to depress inflation.<\/p>\n<p>While the jobs market has weakened, it is still above water.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4434579\/dollar-falls-multi-month-lows-uncertainty-tariffs-fed-shutdown\/\">DOLLAR&nbsp;FALLS&nbsp;TO MULTI-MONTH LOWS ON UNCERTAINTY OVER TARIFFS, THE FED, AND SHUTDOWN THREAT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The economy&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/4412278\/economy-50000-jobs-december-facts-figures\/\">added 50,000&nbsp;jobs&nbsp;in December 2025<\/a>, and the unemployment rate fell to 4.4%. But with revisions to the numbers for October and November, the three-month moving average of&nbsp;job&nbsp;gains was minus-22,000 in December. Despite that, private-sector&nbsp;job growth has been better, averaging nearly 30,000 over the past three months.<\/p>\n<p>Despite declines in overall inflation in 2025, families across the country are still expressing discontent with prices and are reporting affordability issues.
