Anderson reportedly claimed to have a judge-signed release order for Mangione, who is charged in the December 2024 murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, and showed only a Minnesota driver\u2019s license when asked for credentials. Bureau of Prisons officers found a barbecue fork and a circular steel blade resembling a pizza cutter in his bag; anderson also threw documents at officers before being taken into custody. An FBI agent said the papers appear related to filing claims against the Department of Justice. anderson is charged with impersonating an FBI agent and made his first court appearance Thursday. An FBI agent who wrote the criminal complaint said the documents &ldquo;appear to be related to filing of claims against the United States Department of Justice.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>His arrest came hours after Manhattan prosecutors asked a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\/\">New York<\/a> state court to set Mangione&rsquo;s murder trial for July 1, two months in advance of the jury selection date for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-yanks-trump-backed-hispanic-nominee-to-federal-appeals-court\/\" title=\"Biden Yanks Trump-Backed Hispanic Nominee to Federal Appeals Court\">federal trial<\/a>. The 27-year-old criminal defendant has pleaded not guilty in both court cases.<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/department-of-justice\/\">Department of Justice<\/a> is seeking the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/death-penalty\/\">death penalty<\/a> for Mangione if he is convicted in the federal case. A judge has yet to decide on a possible death sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Mangione is being held at the Brooklyn detention facility without bail on charges of murdering Thompson in December 2024. The UnitedHealthcare CEO was in Manhattan for an investors&rsquo; event when he was fatally shot.<\/p>\n<p>Mangione was arrested five days later at a McDonald&rsquo;s restaurant in Altoona, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/4105074\/mangione-lawyers-bondi-death-penalty-tainted-conflict-of-interest\/\">LUIGI MANGIONE&rsquo;S LAWYERS SAY BONDI&rsquo;S DEATH PENALTY DECISION WAS TAINTED BY CONFLICT OF INTEREST<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Anderson made his first court appearance Thursday afternoon.
