Kennedy Jr.<\/a> mentioned the state, in tandem with <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\">California<\/a>, as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/supreme-court-rules-against-biden-doj-in-high-stakes-jan-6-case-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Supreme Court rules against Biden DOJ in high-stakes Jan. 6 case - Washington Examiner\">administration&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s efforts to tackle <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/medicare\/\">Medicare<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/medicaid\/\">Medicaid<\/a> fraud cases, while Noem herself remained silent.<\/p>\n<p>Here&rsquo;s what you need to know from Thursday&rsquo;s event.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-trump-skips-questions\">Trump skips questions<\/h2>\n<p>In a break from the norm, Trump closed the Cabinet meeting without taking questions from reporters after listening to officials&rsquo; presentations for more than an hour.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Mr. President, why not take questions?&rdquo; one reporter asked as White House aides tried to usher members of the news media from the room.<\/p>\n<p>The decision was the second break from Trump&rsquo;s traditional approach to Cabinet meetings, with the <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/president\/\">president<\/a> this time hand-picking which Cabinet secretary or official would speak instead of going around the table and calling on each Cabinet member in turn.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The last time we had a press conference, it lasted for three hours, and some people said, &lsquo;He closed his eyes,&rsquo;&rsquo; he said. &ldquo;Look, it got pretty boring. I love these people, but there&rsquo;s a lot of people. It was a little bit [on] the boring side, but I didn&rsquo;t sleep. (AP Photo\/Evan Vucci)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-did-and-didn-t-speak\">Who did, and didn&rsquo;t, speak?<\/h2>\n<p>Noem was the most notable omission from the speaking line-up after Trump deployed border czar <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tom-homan\/\">Tom Homan<\/a> to Minneapolis on Monday to replace <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/border-patrol\/\">Border Patrol<\/a> commander in chief Greg Bovino following last weekend&rsquo;s death of Alex Pretti.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, Attorney General <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pam-bondi\/\">Pam Bondi <\/a>and Transportation Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/sean-duffy\/\">Sean Duffy<\/a> did not speak amid reports that Trump is also unhappy with them, for different reasons, nor did Labor Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lori-chavez-deremer\/\">Lori Chavez-DeRemer<\/a>, who is under an ethical investigation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Director of National Intelligence <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tulsi-gabbard\/\">Tulsi Gabbard,<\/a> who is reportedly on the outs because of her perceived opposition to Trump&rsquo;s foreign policy decisions in <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/venezuela\/\">Venezuela<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/iran\/\">Iran<\/a>, was not even in the room, dispatched instead to Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>Other Cabinet officials on the non-speakers list included Secretary of State <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/marco-rubio\/\">Marco Rubio<\/a>, Veterans Affairs Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/doug-collins\/\">Doug Collins<\/a>, Interior Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/doug-burgum\/\">Doug Burgum<\/a>, Agriculture Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/brooke-rollins\/\">Brooke Rollins<\/a>, Education Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/linda-mcmahon\/\">Linda McMahon,<\/a> CIA Director <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/john-ratcliffe\/\">John Ratcliffe<\/a>, U.S. Trade representative <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jamieson-greer\/\">Jamieson Greer<\/a>, and White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought.<\/p>\n<p>Those who did speak included Kennedy, War Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pete-hegseth\/\">Pete Hegseth<\/a>, Treasury Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/scott-bessent\/\">Scott Bessent<\/a>, Commerce Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/howard-lutnick\/\">Howard Lutnick<\/a>, Energy Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/chris-wright\/\">Chris Wright<\/a>, Small Business Administration Administrator <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kelly-loeffler\/\">Kelly Loeffler<\/a>, Housing and Urban Development Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/author\/scott-turner\/\">Scott Turner<\/a>, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lee-zeldin\/\">Lee Zeldin<\/a>, and Special Missions Envoy <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/steve-witkoff\/\">Steve Witkoff<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">US Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem (R) looks on as President Donald Trump hosts a cabinet meeting in the Cabinet Room of the White House in Washington, DC, on January 29, 2026. (Photo by Brendan SMIALOWSKI \/ AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-biggest-laughs\">Biggest laughs<\/h2>\n<p>Trump, always an entertainer, had Rubio and Hegseth laughing when he <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >mentioned social media fodder based<\/a> on photographs purportedly capturing him sleeping during past Cabinet meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Trump also got a rise out of the room while introducing Kennedy, whose <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/maha\/\">Make America Healthy Again<\/a> following could help Republicans perform better in this <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2026-election\/\">November&rsquo;s elections<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I read an article today where they think Bobby is going to be really great for the Republican Party in the midterms, so I have to be very careful that Bobby likes us,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump, in addition, shared more about his so-far anonymous friend who is taking Ozempic, describing him as a &ldquo;very successful,&rdquo; but &ldquo;seriously overweight person.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He&rsquo;s a crude individual, but smart as hell, made a lot of money,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;He got the shot, you know, Ozempic, I think, or whatever. And I told him it wasn&rsquo;t working.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Vice President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/jd-vance\/\">JD Vance <\/a>earned a few chuckles of his own as well. When the president presented him an opportunity to speak, he politely declined and quipped that he was &ldquo;only&rdquo; present for the coffee.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-was-the-biggest-sycophant\">Who was the biggest sycophant?<\/h2>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s Cabinet meetings frequently see the department heads heap praise on the president. Thursday&rsquo;s affair was no different, with Bessent on Thursday promising that 2026 is &ldquo;going to be the year for the Trump boom.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We&rsquo;ve got gains in wages, low prices,&rdquo; the secretary said. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s going to be a supply-side boom.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Hegseth added that Trump&rsquo;s capture of former Venezuelan dictator <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nicolas-maduro\/\">Nicolas Maduro<\/a> was &ldquo;the most sophisticated raid in world history.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4436153\/rubio-sidesteps-minneapolis-secretary-state-post-2028\/\"><strong>RUBIO SIDESTEPS MINNEAPOLIS QUAGMIRE FROM SECRETARY OF STATE POST WITH 2028 LOOMING<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wright went on to say, &ldquo;with confidence,&rdquo; that &ldquo;hundreds of American lives have been saved&rdquo; because Trump has leaned in and reversed former President <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\">Joe Biden<\/a>&rsquo;s killing of coal and revitalizing coal, while Loeffler told Trump that he &ldquo;ended at least eight wars,&rdquo; including &ldquo;Biden and the Democrats&rsquo; war&rdquo; on hard-working families.<\/p>\n<p>Lutnick may have been the most toadying, telling the president, &ldquo;You are fixing everything with your policies.
