Sponsored by Sen. saddam Salim, the bill would outlaw sales, imports, manufacturing, purchases, or transfers of such weapons and impose a 10\u2011round magazine limit, making violations a Class 1 misdemeanor; the magazine cap contains no grandfathering for sales or transfers. Mark Peake warned that disarming citizens weakens a check against &ldquo;tyrannical government.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Conversely, Democratic state Sen. Creigh Deeds defended the necessity of the ban, pointing to the epidemic of <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gun-violence\/\">gun violence<\/a>, specifically citing the recent fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti in Minnesota as an example of why high-capacity weapons should not be readily available to the public.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Virginia Senate Republicans Caucus was quick to condemn the legislation on social media, warning gun owners to &ldquo;beware.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Virginia Democrats are <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >targeting law-abiding gun owners<\/a> while eliminating mandatory minimums for individuals who commit actual gun crimes,&rdquo; the caucus posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its success in committee, the bill faces an uphill battle.
