Authorities will examine whether X properly assessed and mitigated risks before integrating Grok and after switching its algorithm to a Grok-based system, under the EU\u2019s Digital Services Act (DSA). The commission warned the altered images\u2014especially those depicting minors\u2014might potentially be illegal, and EU tech commissioner Henna Virkkunen called sexual deepfakes a violent, unacceptable form of degradation. The probe expands a December 2023 DSA inquiry (which led to a roughly $140 million fine) and could lead to interim measures if X does not make meaningful adjustments. Musk has denied awareness of underage naked images and said Grok is designed to refuse illegal requests; X says it will remove unlawful material, suspend offending accounts, cooperate with authorities, and has limited some image-generation features to paid subscribers. EU tech commissioner Henna Virkkunen <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_26_203\">said in a statement<\/a> on Sunday. &ldquo;With this investigation, we will determine whether X has met its legal obligations under the DSA, or whether it treated rights of European citizens &mdash; including those of women and children &mdash; as collateral damage of its service.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Adopted in 2022, the DSA essentially moderates content on online platforms to prioritize user safety by removing illegal content, including but not limited to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/second-minor-sues-twitter-over-sex-trafficking-on-social-media-site\/\" title=\"Second Minor Sues Twitter Over Sex Trafficking On Social Media Site\">child sexual abuse material<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The European Commission is also expanding its December 2023 investigation to establish whether X properly assessed and mitigated all risks associated with its decision to switch the app&rsquo;s algorithm to a Grok-based system.<\/p>\n<p>As it gathers evidence and information, the commission said it &ldquo;may impose interim measures in the absence of meaningful adjustments to the X service&rdquo; made by its billionaire owner.<\/p>\n<p>As of Monday morning, Musk has not directly responded to the latest investigation, as he did after learning of the $140 million fine. However, he has commented on the Grok sexualization issue before.<\/p>\n<p>At one point this month, Musk claimed he was &ldquo;not aware of any <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/eu-opens-investigation-into-groks-sexualized-deepfakes\/\" title=\"... into ...&#039;s ...\">naked underage images generated<\/a> by Grok&rdquo; and stressed that the chatbot is designed to &ldquo;refuse to produce anything illegal&rdquo; in violation of the law in a country or state.
