The display \u2014 on view since 2010 \u2014 detailed the nine enslaved people who lived at the site while George Washington resided there (1790\u20131797). Officials removed the panels after President Trump\u2019s March 2025 executive order, &#8220;Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,&#8221; wich directed removal of historical displays the management deems a \u201cfalse reconstruction\u201d or driven by partisan ideology.<\/p>\n<p>Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker has sued the federal government, saying a 2006 cooperative agreement required consultation before such changes. Rep. The &ldquo;Freedom and Slavery in the Making of a New Nation&rdquo; exhibit focused on the nine slaves who lived at the location when President George Washington resided there from 1790 to 1797, when Philadelphia was the capital of the United States. National Park Service employees dismantled the displays and removed the panels that provided historical analysis of the site on Thursday. Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcphiladelphia.com\/news\/local\/slavery-exhibit-removed-independence-mall-philadelphia-thursday\/4337781\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filed<\/a> a lawsuit against the Trump administration following the removal. She claimed there was a cooperative agreement signed by the city and the federal government that allegedly prohibited such changes without advanced notice.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are right now researching and reviewing the cooperative agreement between the City of Philadelphia and federal government that dates back to 2006,&rdquo; <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/politics\/nation\/presidents-house-independence-park-exhibits-removed-20260122.html\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> Parker. &ldquo;It requires parties to meet and confer if there are any changes to be made to any exhibit, so anything that is outside that agreement, it requires that our Law Department review it.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/editorials\/4427498\/democrats-wont-protect-christians-trump-should\/\"><strong><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/4432434\/fbi-agent-investigated-renee-goods-death-resigns\/\">FBI AGENT WHO INVESTIGATED RENEE GOOD&rsquo;S DEATH RESIGNS<\/a><\/strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rep. Dwight Evans (D-PA) <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/evans.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/evans-condemns-outrageous-desecration-presidents-house-exhibit\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> the decision to remove it an &ldquo;outrage.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;What the Trump-Vance administration has done to the President&rsquo;s House exhibit in Philadelphia is an outrage!&rdquo; Evans said. &ldquo;Their shameful desecration of this exhibit raises broader, disturbing questions about this administration&rsquo;s continued abuse of power and commitment to whitewashing history.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;True patriotism requires facing our nation&rsquo;s past &ndash; and learning from it.
