Mergen had been the acting supervisor of the Public Corruption squad and left the agency last week, according to The New York Times. The shooting on Jan.7 prompted federal and state inquiries: federal officials, including DHS, say the officer acted in self-defense, while local leaders and protesters have disputed that account. The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >incident sparked statewide protests<\/a>, a &#8220;Day of Unity&#8221; organized by Gov. Tim Walz, and debate over whether the officer has absolute immunity. Federal officials, including <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/department-of-homeland-security\/\">Homeland Security<\/a> Secretary <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kristi-noem\/\">Kristi Noem<\/a>, have stated the officer shot Good in an act of self-defense as she drove her car towards his direction. But many Democratic and state officials have pushed back on that assertion, as Gov. <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tim-walz\/\">Tim Walz<\/a> (D-MN) organized a &ldquo;<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/4412600\/walz-readies-national-guard-staged-day-of-unity-woman-killed-by-ice\/\">Day of Unity<\/a>&rdquo; in response to Good&rsquo;s killing.<\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/crime\/4411039\/what-to-know-ice-shooting-minneapolis-left-one-woman-dead\/\">fatal shooting<\/a> has lead to anti-ICE protests throughout Minnesota and the country. <\/p>\n<p>The response has also included a <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4411877\/minnesota-ice-shooting-ignites-debate-federal-officer-immunity\/\">debate<\/a> between <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/investigations\/4412770\/minneapolis-mayor-calls-vances-declaration-absolute-immunity-ice-officer-bizarre\/\">Minnesota<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/4411803\/jd-vance-defends-ice-officer-shooting-minnesota-absolute-immunity\/\">federal<\/a> leaders over wether or not absolute immunity applies to the ICE officer who fatally shot Good.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/4418445\/doj-says-no-basis-civil-rights-investigation-minneapolis-ice-shooting\/\">DOJ SAYS &lsquo;NO BASIS&rsquo; FOR CIVIL RIGHTS INVESTIGATION OF MINNEAPOLIS ICE SHOOTING<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/department-of-justice\/\">Department of Justice <\/a>announced on Jan. 14 that it would not conduct a criminal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fbi-announces-investigation-into-andrew-brown-jr-shooting\/\" title=\"FBI Announces ...
