The Board – announced in September 2025 and approved by the U.N. in November as a “transitional governance with international legal personality” for Gaza – is charged with overseeing a ceasefire, reconstruction of Gaza, and advancing Palestinian statehood.

The Board’s charter names Trump as “inaugural chairman” in perpetuity and as the U.S. representative until the end of his second presidential term; he will designate his own successor and authority can only be relinquished by voluntary resignation or incapacity. Member states normally serve up to three-year terms unless they contribute $1 billion in cash, which exempts them from that limit.

Israel has protested participation by Turkey and qatar and raised concerns about <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/hegseth-proudly-fixes-woke-biden-initiative-troops-hate-it/" title="Hegseth ...Proudly... About 25 countries have reportedly agreed to join so far, offers have been extended to roughly 50, and even Russia and China have been invited but have not responded.

U.S.officials have given mixed messages about whether the Board could replace or supplement the U.N.; Trump suggested it “might” replace the U.N. while also saying he supports the U.N.’s potential. The initiative has provoked diplomatic controversy over its structure, the concentration of authority in Trump, and the composition of participating countries.

Qatar and Turkey join ‘Board of Peace’
