city Department of Health spokesperson Willie Springer said, KTVI <a href=\"https:\/\/fox2now.com\/news\/missouri\/ai-complicating-efforts-to-capture-escaped-monkeys\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Springer said the reports sparked &ldquo;rumor after rumor&rdquo; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=476&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1500820877655885%2F&amp;show_text=true&amp;width=267&amp;t=0\" width=\"267\" height=\"591\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;But as of Monday, the monkeys remained at large,&rdquo; Springer said.<\/p>\n<p>The volume of online trolling eventually overwhelmed the response effort.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&rsquo;s been a lot in regard to AI and what&rsquo;s genuine and what&rsquo;s not,&rdquo; Springer said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;People are just having fun. Like I don&rsquo;t think anyone means harm,&rdquo; he added.<\/p>\n<p>City officials said there appeared to be some validity to the original monkey sightings.<\/p>\n<p>However, the flood of fabricated content sent police and animal control on what one official privately described as a wild goose chase, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/monkeys-st-louis-96c55834c7f17854cc4362db891ca8fa?link_source=ta_bluesky_link&amp;taid=69657013a6dae900019cb453\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Social media posts even claimed the monkeys were traveling with a goat. The fake reports complicated efforts to track real sightings.
