Prosecutors say Butler exploited the Swipe Ships Bunkers Easy Acquisition Card program used by Navy and Coast Guard vessels, receiving payments for fuel he did not supply between August 2022 and January 2024.He allegedly tried to hide his identity by using a fake name and claiming to work for a fictitious fuel division. The DOJ says Butler used the illicit proceeds to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\" >buy multi\u2011million\u2011dollar properties<\/a> in Florida and Colorado. U.S. District Judge Donald Middlebrooks ordered him taken into custody after the verdict; sentencing is set for April 8. Butler&rsquo;s felony charges included wire fraud, money laundering, and forgery.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney General <a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pam-bondi\/\">Pam Bondi <\/a>scorned Butler following the verdict and said the scheme that took resources from American troops was to &ldquo;line his own pockets.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8203;&#8203;&ldquo;This defendant brazenly defrauded the U.S. Military out of millions of dollars and put critical fuel resources at risk, all to fund his cushy and fictitious lifestyle,&rdquo; Bondi said. &ldquo;He deprived the United States Armed Forces of the resources they need to help keep our country safe.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Butler, the owner of Independent Marine Oil Services LLC, exploited the Swipe Ships&rsquo; Bunkers Easy Acquisition Card program, a vital logistical system that allows U.S. vessels to purchase fuel at international ports.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fraudulent activity took place from August 2022 to January 2024.
