The Disney+ series The Acolyte drew heavy criticism for alleged lore issues, modern pronoun usage, and controversial plot elements, and after its end in late 2024 Disney substantially reduced new Star Wars content.

Kathleen Kennedy, long criticized by portions of the fanbase (even satirized on South Park), is stepping down as Lucasfilm president, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. She is expected to leave promptly but will remain involved as a producer on the next two theatrical Star Wars films – The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026) and Star Wars: Starfighter (2027). Disney CEO Bob Iger offered public thanks for her leadership.

Lucasfilm’s leadership will be split: Dave Filoni is set to become president and chief creative officer, while Lynwen Brennan will become co-president responsible for business operations.

Whatever one may think of the Disney-owned era of Lucasfilm and “Star Wars,”
